Thank you, Presto18!
So here is the chain of inference:
1. Complaint in Fall Term 1876 by "Wm. A. Chunn et al. Heirs at Law, Saml Chunn decd" that J. B. Sawyer sold the land on or before 22 Mar 1860, but failed to pay the proceeds to the heirs.
2. Deed recorded 22 Mar 1860 showing that J. B. Sawyer, Master in Equity, sold two tracts of land, "by virtue of a decree of the Court of Equity held for the County of Buncombe at Spring term 1856 in the case of Joseph S. Chunn & others ex parte, heirs of Samuel Chunn decd."
3. Will of Joseph S. Chunn, signed 13 Apr 1876, proved 27 May 1876, mentions "my brother Alford B. Chunn" [sic] and names him as executor.
So, three heirs of Samuel Chunn of Buncombe County are Samuel Love Chunn (father of William Augustus Chunn), Joseph S. Chunn, and Alfred B. Chunn.
Mission accomplished. Thanks again,
Cathy Ball

The is a will for Joseph S Chunn datedd May 1876 book B page 137. It lists an Alfred B Chunn.
I believe it said in the will that he was the brother of Joseph.

Samuel Chunn is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Asheville NC. According to Cemetery Inscriptions of Buncombe County, vol. 5, p. 55, he was born 7 Mar 1772 and died 23 Nov 1855.
I am seeking proof of his children, such as may be found in a will or other reliable source. But I cannot find a will in either Buncombe County or Madison County.
In Samuel Chunn's estate file on familysearch.org there is nothing but papers pertaining to a complaint filed by "Wm A. Chunn et al., heirs at law of Samuel Chunn decd" in 1876. The complaint states that in the Spring Term in 1856 of the Court of Equity, the heirs of Samuel Chunn filed a partition suit for the sale of his real estate, and J. B. Sawyer sold the land on or before 22 Mar 1860, but never paid the money to the heirs. The lawyers countered that the heirs were not identified in the complaint, and the case was dismissed.
William A. Chunn is probably William Augustus Chunn, son of Samuel L. Chunn (who was dead by 1876). I know who the other heirs SHOULD be. Does anyone have proof, or know how I can find the partition suit?
I am particularly interested in proving Alfred B. Chunn (c1811-1892) as the son of Samuel Chunn.
Thanks for any help,
Cathy Ball

We believe it is John Chunn who was in St Mary's County MD. by 1682 when his name appears on a land deed.
