Hello!
My dad, William Reed Chunn, a descendant of John Chunn (1640-1720) of Wantage Parish, Berkshire, England, had his YDNA tested as well as some additional testing to more specifically determine his ethnicity. The result was that he is from Haplogroup R1b1c10, which has been identified as having originated in the Cimbric tribe of Jutland (Denmark) in Biblical times, B.C. They apparently then migrated from Jutland to the east coast of England. You can Google "R1b1c10" for additional information. You can also read "The Journey of Man: A Genetic Odyssey" by Spencer Wells who is the current guru of population genetics for more information.
Hope this helps!

Dear Carolyn,
Have just started using a computer, and am finding this all very interesting!. As a fellow descendant of a "Chunn", I agree with your thoughts on the origins of the name. Would like to know what gave you this idea, or where you obtained your information from. I have my own reasons for supporting your theory.
Just hope you are still interested, and reading this message board, as it is nine years on from your first message.
All the best,
Leona Rains

Hi
I am sure I am connected with this family although it is through my paternal grandmother.
Her grandfather Stephen SHUNN (the name appears to have mutated sometime in the 1700's was from kennet in wiltshire but the family seem to have been in the area for generationa and certainly have links across the border into berkshire.
I would be interested to see if I can make a link with either of you
regards from Australia
Christine

It is perhaps possible to find a Chunn male - will have to think on this. Unfortunately my Grandfather died back in 1965.
My e-mail address is leona_rains(a)yahoo.co.nz
Perhaps you may like to contact me this way. My husband has just had his DNA sample taken for his side of the family, but at least we know there are others who have done the same.
Regards,
Leona

I would love to see your family tree and see if it connects to mine in anyways. I have John Chunn b. 1639/40 whose father was John Chunn b. 1609/10. I do not have any other information on John b. 1609/10 except that he married Dorothy and their children were born and baptized in Wantage Parrish, Berkshire, England. I have two siblings for John b. 1639/40: Henry and Mary. He may have had more, but it is hard to research English records from America. It's a litte far to go :)
Look forward to hearing from you. Always wonderful to hear from a cousin no matter how distant they may be.
Thanks-
Christine Chunn

Amn not a lot of use to you as I am a female, but would just like to advise you that I too, descend from a Robert Chunn of Shalbourne, Berkshire, and his son Thomas Chunn baptised 1629 at Shalbourne, Berkshire. Have a fairly full family tree of the family, and they seem to have moved into Wiltshire County as time progressed. Would think that we are distant cousins, even though very distant after all these generations. Still nice to be able to make contact though. Hope you are still interested in the family, and wishing you all the best,

Hello!
Yes, it is possible that we are cousins! Do you have any surname Chunn males in your family that might like to get tested? I live in hope that one day my dad will not be the only Chunn male to test his YDNA!!!
Thanks so much for contacting me! I would be interested in learning more about your research on the early Chunns.
Letha from San Diego, California
