CHUNN is a Cornish name and is pronounced CHOON. It is not surprising that there is a CHUNN Castle in Cornwall. The Cornish people are Celtic and thus related to the Welsh, Irish, Scotch, and Breton (France) people.
I have collected material on the family in Maryland but have not made an effort to cross the ocean. I would very much like to find out where the first Chunn to come to America settled as well as his name.

Hi, My name is Kathy. I tried to reply to this message previously but I must have done something wrong as I don't see the "thread". It was my first attempt. I assume you got answers to your search for Mattie. Mattie was my GG-Grandfathers sister. If you need more info, let me know. nico5940(a)bellsouth.net

Hi cousins, Steve I hope you are still connected because Aunt Dasey tells me that you have a lot of info and have done a lot of research. I just spoke to her about a week ago. She sounds goods for 84. I am your cousin Kathy and my Dad, Dan Evol and your mom (his Aunt) were very close in their younger years. My Grandmother, Mary Lou was your Mom's older sister. Anyway, I need clarification as we seem to have some information that conflicts. Here's what I have:
Polly A Hicks b abt 1916 in PA marries Phillip Brewer b 1812 TN. They have a daughter, Martha Jane Brewer born 1854 in Clark, IL.
1860 Census Clark IL- Martha Jane Brewer (age 6) living with her mother Polly Brewer (age 40) and brothers Daniel, Hurlan, John, Henry, Zachariah, William. All born between 1840-1854. Polly is a widow. What happend to Phillip Brewer?
1870 Clinton IN Census, I find a Jane Brewer (age 17) as domestic servant on the Wright Farm, near Thomas H. Chunn's farm. (Can't find Polly A Hicks-Brewer)
Around 1870 Martha Jane Brewer marries a Wheeler (William H? not sure.
In 1872 Martha Jane Brewer Wheeler gives birth to Ida A/Mae Wheeler. (Our GG Grandmother) One year later, Martha Jane Brewer Wheeler dies.
She has two small children, Ida Mae and Charles who is two years older than Ida.
1880 Census, Clinton, IN I find Ida & Charles Wheeler (age 8&10 living with their grandmother, Polly A. Brewer (age 65), a widow. (I think Polly is their great grandmother) I think her husband Phillip died 5/18/1860.
There is conflicting info on where Polly Ann was born. PA or TN? Is her Father Arther from PA b1774? And is her Mother Mary Lemmon, b 1783 in TN?
What happend to the father of Ida and Charles Wheeler? Why did the grandmother have the kids? What was Wheelers first name? and where was he born? KY?
There is only one photo of Ida Mae and One photo of her husband William Sherman circulating. Who in the family has all the photos??? No photos of our GGG Grandfather Wm H Wheeler or Martha Jane Brewer. Where are they buried?
Also, Aunt Dasey says that Brewer was Cherokee Indiana and Wheeler was Ute (Canadian Indian)? Do we have confirmation of Indian heritage? My Dad always told me that Ida Mae Wheeler-Chuun-Hardman was an indian medicine woman.
Thanks group! Kathy
