My cuzzin' Joe sent this to me yesterday- probably snagged from another list-
but that's kewl- that's how the good stuff gets spread around! I am sure that
all of you are busy getting ready for Christmas but.... you might enjoy
giving this site a try when you have time. It is a Surname Thesaurus and will
create a list of additional spellings for various surnames. Just
type in your surname of interest and then look at all the other suggested
spellings. Interesting!
http://www.imagepartners.co.uk/Thesaurus/Search.aspx
.Folks, due to time constraints and the shear amount of work it takes I will
not be giving out prizes for the trivia questions but a fella researcher and
friend came up with this idea- works for me
......the person who wins could submit their question and all of us can do
our part in
researching and seeing what we can find to help. Tis the season! There have
to be enough of us out there to come up with
something!
So- todays 'game' is here:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today's "trivia" replacement comes in the form of a treat from a friend of a
friend! Thank you Judy for sending it to us to use!
Here is a quiz that Patch and Kathy at the Pulmonary Rehab Department, Mercy
Well, let's try it!
Sounds great to me!
.......the person who
wins could submit their question and all of us can do our part in
researching and seeing what we can find to help.
Tis the season! There have to be enough of us out there to come up with
something!
SOunds great to me.. one of my lists we began with one person and they listed
a problem spot and asked for help for a Christmas present- everyone is
looking and yet- with over 700 subscribers to that list alone - we haven't found a
thing! But it sure is fun sharing and trying.. maybe it would be a great idea -
I like how your idea would work. Let me finish wrapping these few things and
I'll get back to ya!
Di
Ohhh I would love to reinstate the trivia today.. I just don't have very good
ideas for prizes. I like to give something personal, and I had such big ideas
I got swamped! LOL.
I will do more trivia beginning tomorrow, I just am stumped for the moment!
If ya'll have any ideas or if we just do it for fun -that is fine too. I just
don't seem to have 29 hours for Friday and then 26 hours on Sat, as well as
making fudge- and angels.. and my oh my- postage.. holy cow! :-)
I look forward to coming back with a better idea tomorrow!
me
Anyway do we get any trivia today??? Or do we have to continue to be nice
:o)
The trivia can be just for fun or if prizes are needed.......the person who
wins could submit their question and all of us can do our part in
researching and seeing what we can find to help.
Tis the season! There have to be enough of us out there to come up with
something!
Just an idea........
Working moms: Find helpful tips here on managing kids, home, work and
yourself. http://special.msn.com/msnbc/workingmom.armx
My contribution was online. I have been helping someone who is researching
into the Thomas Drayton Chunn line.....she wants to compile a ton of
research information and then write a book about our ancestros migration
patterns with an emphasis on where they lived - background and such. My oh
my do they have their work cut out for them!! Just think of all the
problems we have just trying to research and connect the dots!!!!!
I did dig up some information on a William Chunn who served in the War of
1812 in the 1st Reg't of Tennessee Volunteers (Bradley's division).
Possible this William the father of my William born in 1806 approx. Also
noted that the James Smith family who located in/around Duck River in Maury
County - Columbus, TN - settled in the area around 1807.......so..........it
gives some creditibility to the story of William s/o Sylvester being in the
area at that time that my William was born........so the assumption would be
that William is the father of William..........
Anyway do we get any trivia today??? Or do we have to continue to be nice
:o)
Happy Tuesday Ya'll!
Shirley, aka Lorstand won the trivia question for Sunday!
The prize is a homemade Angel Ornament which can also be worn as a pin.
Please send your address to my personal email at
SunshineNative(a)aol.com
and I will get this in the mail to you this afternnon!
Di
I forgot to make note that Christine send the follow information as well. I
do not have the full source info- but here is what I have..
* James Smith's memoirs states "William, son of Sylvester, helped lay road in
Maury Co., Tenn" She is using this as a supposition to help guide for an area
to begin with- thinking this would be William and his father Sylvester.
Ideas?
Hi Ya'll,
Friday's winner of the trivia question was Poohbearable, aka as Christine.
She is researching WILLIAM CHUNN and needs your help.
These are the facts and data that I have collected from her:
Subject: WILLIAM CHUNN-------parents are unkn
Spouse is Nancy, maiden name unkn, marriage date unkn. location of marriage
unkn
William's DOB approx 1805-1806----possibly born in Tenn. (*1)
1810
1820
1830
----must've married in the early thirties.
1834 Son Robert James M. Chunn born
1836 son, Geo. W born
1839 dau. Sarah born
1840
1841 dau Elizabeth born
1843 dau Anna born
1845 son Henry born
1847 dau Margaret born
1849 son William Chunn Jr. Born
1850- Christine thinks she found them in Miss. Census
1860
1861 William died.. where? Where? buried where?
Does anyoone have further information on this family? I have just setup my
chart and will look through the files this afternoon. I didn't anticipate the
time it would take to research one hour per winner per list..... for consecutive
days- LOL.. I am enjoying it though!
Let this be be in place of todays trivia question, please, if you can check
your records, and maybe a few seconds to look around on line- let us know if
you find anything that would be helpful!
Thanks for all ya'll do!
Dianne
Let me make one correction to the information Di sent out: I do not know
when William died.
The person who died in 1861 was George W. - William's son.
Thanks for ya'll's help!!!!!!
G'morning Ya'll,
Hope the weekend was restful for each of you! Today, in place of the Trivia
Question I am sending a page of off-colour humour from one of my friends.I hope
that not too many of you will be offended! Do you recognize any of yourselves
in these jokes?
To be honest with each of youI didn't realize the amount of work that would
be needed to give my best efforts at the prizes for the Trivia Question. I am
enjoying it immensely though! So, today is my day to catch up on the 'prizes'
and prepare for the remainder of the week. If any of you have ideas- email them
to the lists! I can always use new ideas!
Happy Monday
Dianne
Hi Ya'll
While working on some "research hours" owed to winners of the trivia
questions, I realised that a lot of information is out there that researchers may be
forgetful of, or just plain might not know about. I got a lesson in how
important these subsitutes are when I tried to track down my mother-in-law's
immigrant family. A sweet wonderful woman, named Elaine, went to the time and trouble
to actually LOOK up some of these records and mailed them to me.. I fell in
love with genealogy the day I recieved my first package from her.
Its been a couple of years ( or so!) but I hope this table from "THE SOURCE:
A Guidebook for American Genealogy" will be helpful to you as well.
Hi Ya'll,
I am in a bit of a rush, so I will list yesterday's winner(s) when I get home
this afternoon. Remember only the FIRST one to email with the correct answer
(on each list) will win. So one winner per day per list. You can answer the
question and win more than once a day if you are subscribed to more than one of
my lists.
Today's question for you to ponder:
Santa's only female sleigh-pulling reindeer, Vixen, has antlers. True or
false?
Good Luck to ya'll and I'll be back online with yesterday's winners and
today's prize after 5p.. Your emails are time stamped -so don't worry- I'll know
who emailed first!
Di
O.K., Di,
"Freyr, Scandanavian God of Peace and Plenty, used to ride on a boar called
Gullinbursti; his festival was held at Yuletide (winter solstice) when a boar
was sacrificed in his honor."
Came from a dictionary of Phrases & Fables by E. Cobham Bartleby (found on
internet).
Merry Christmas!!
A university student saved himself from a charging boar by shoving a book of Aristotle's writings down it's throat. He then cut off the boar's head & brought it back to college.
Like the trivia questions..........
Subject: [CHUNN] Saturday's Trivia Question
Hi Ya'll, this may be a little harder - I only want to make sure you have a
challenge! Its more enjoyable that way.
Prize of the day? One pound of home-made Chocolate Fudge, with or without
nuts OR one hour of Research- in genealogy. Remember, the winner is the person
who sends the correct answer first! So if you belong to more than one of my
lists, then you have a better chance of getting the prize. There is one winner
per list!
Today's Question:
A boar's head is a traditional Christmas dish. According to a popular story
from the Middle Ages, who killed the the unlucky boar whose head began the
custom?
I'll be waiting!
Good Luck!
Di
