Hello Ya'll,
In a continuing effort to educate myself and to pass the information along to

(I may have also emailed this to various lists that I subscribe to!)The

Do you by chance have a source for this. I have seen names: Moses Atkins and Jack Harris. From the two different last names, one would think that maybe she was a widower twice? Or one was a brother or cousin - Atkins or Harris being her maiden name.
Just curious and trying to piece together more of the Chunn puzzle :o)
I appreciate the feedback!

Hannah Garret was the wife of Henry Chunn, s/o Sylvester Chunn. Garret or Jarret as spelled in Sylvester's will is a grandson of Sylvester, not his direct son. Unless it would be one of the unknown son/daughters still trying to link names and dates to according to the censuses.
Sylvester had a first wife, name unknown. He remarried later on to an Obedience or Obediana as spelled in his will. She had children from a previous marriage. These as well were listed in Sylvester's will as "wife children".

Most folks are aware of the simple ones- but lets list them again!!!
Vital Records: Birth, death, marriage, and the SSDI ( social security death
index): many states did not require these before the twentieth century.
Don't forget the everloved Census records. But remember, school census, local
enumeration census. Schools also did census to prepare for the number of
children to expect the coming year. County offices for water and sewer depts
also have information- I found if I had an address, they could locate the
name of the road changes and when and where city tie-ins happened and when!
Court Records: Wills, adoptions, land and property bills of sale, tax rolls,
deeds naturalization, and even lawsuits. Let us not forget PROBATE court
Records.
Church Records: Baptisms, Marriages, Burials, Christenings, etc.
Health Dept Records. I had no idea about this tool as I have mentioned in the
past. vaccination records. as well as inter-office memos regarding epidemics,
etc. A wealth of supporting information here!
Newspaper, magazines: Not only for obituaries, but for marriage and birth
records, also social news, many times family members will be mentioned as
well.
Military Records: (don't sell this one short!!) enlistments, commissions,
muster rolls, veterans documentation. You can also get records for pensions
filed, (whether okayed or denied). Medals Awarded and reasons for the action.
You can also download the Service Records from differing wars and the
accounts are so touching.
Fraternal Organizations: Many clubs such as the Lion's Club, Mason's, Woodmen
of the World, etc , keep records on members. Such records can help you
pinpoint an ancestors location at a certain time in your life.
Ships Passenger Lists: not just for immigrations, but for travel for citizens
of the US. Inclduing travel within the country. Some rivers, were the sites
of many pioneer marriages.
** for newer family members as well as the ne'er do well family members -I
use a search program called "Online Investigator" - I can access criminal
records, as well as court documents that cannot be found on familiar sites, I
can get into some interesting government sites. Addresses by using Parole
records as well as for locating existing family members in some
instances.Missing persons, Unsealed Adoption Records, Driving records, Dept
of Transportation records. Aviation, sailing vessels, bankrupticies etc.
These type services offer access to Federal, State, County, Civil and Local
court records. There are more possibilities but this is exhaustive enough.
When my father-in-law's sister died I found her estranged family by locating
a probate docket and tracking down the Fiduciary. I only use it in extreme
cases - but we won't go THERE tonight! This is quite expensive and not an
oridinary search tool. Unless you are acquainted with some folks from the
seemier side of life! <ahem>
Enough for the night- I am hoping to send a list of online research sites, I
have some 90 odd sites that are very helpful. (So helpful I STILL haven't
found all of my dead folks- so don't take my word for it!! LOL)
Bye Ya'll
Dianne
Let us remember to live life
moment to moment,
one memory at a time.
Hello Ya'll!
I have had some real stumbling blocks and those famous "brick walls". This
week I learned something: You are NEVER too old to learn something new!
I was up against trying to find an accurate birthdate in the late 1800's. I
was so frustrated because none of the information FIT what the person had
told me before she died. Upon investigation I was told the building that had
held the records, had burned and along with it, her birth certificate etc.
A woman, obviously an angel in disguise, asked me for the name of the person
or family I was trying to locate. A week later, in my post box was a huge
thick enevelope from her. It was copies of dept of health Vaccination Records
as well as School Census records, and other tidbits of their life that filled
in the many blanks that I had.
I had never even THOUGHT of looking for dept of health or school records.
Thank goodness that old dogs can still be taught new tricks!
Have a great day Folks!
Dianne

curious. I have Jarret or Garret's parents as Silvester Littleberry Chunn and

Hello, Christine,
Yes, I think you are on the same track, but, I would like to know
where you found your information that Jarret/Garret was born in 1813, NC and
also what source you found to connect him as the son of Silvester
"Littleberry" or "Berry" CHUNN and Martha Slaughter?
The following information is what I have found so far on "Berry" CHUNN
and his descendants. Could you please let me know what/who your source is
that shows Jarret or Garret's parents as Silvester Littleberry Chunn and
mother possibly Martha Slaughter?
Descendants of John Chunn, Sr.
Generation No. 5
6. BERRY5 CHUNN (SYLVESTER4, JOSEPH3, BENJAMIN2, JOHN1)1 was born Abt. 1792
in Richmond County, North Carolina1, and died Abt. 1830 in Dallas County,
Alabama1. He married MARTHA SLAUGHTER1 Abt. 1810 in Richmond County, North
Carolina1, daughter of OWEN SLAUGHTER and MARY MCDONALD. She was born 1792 in
Richmond County, North Carolina1, and died Bet. 1830 - 1833 in Dallas County,
Alabama1.
Children of BERRY CHUNN and MARTHA SLAUGHTER are:
7. i. WILLIAM6 CHUNN, b. 1812, North Carolina; d. Unknown, Monroe County,
Alabama.
ii. OWEN CHUNN1, b. 1814, Richmond County, North Carolina1; d. Unknown;

d. February 01, 1903.
vii. LYDIA EMALINE J. CHUNN1, b. 1826, Greene County, Alabama1; d.
Unknown.
I will be anxious to know if you have the above names listed as
descendants of Littleberry and Martha as well. I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you,
Nancy
Most of my information was given to me by a good friend/relative. As I am making my way along the Chunn path and research, I am verifying and making corrections and changes as I go. Most of this information has been taken off the internet. I do not know if it is from other people or source information like the GENWEB pages. I personally have not linked Jarret (that is how it is spelled in Silvester's will) to Silvester Littleberry. I am still working on verifying all 20 pages of this information I was given.
I do know that on the LDS family research site that I have confirmation of a Berry Chunn married to a Martha Slaughter with a child William Chunn b. 1812 in Alabama, not NC.
The film # is 6142836 & # 6142815.
I am currently working on typing Silvester's will into the computer so I can put it out on the mailing list for all to enjoy.
However one more tidbit of information. In finding Silvester on the census' in NC, 1810 is the first year that he "loses" a child and a Berry Chunn shows up on the census as his own listing. It is an assumption that Silvester would be his father and now Berry has gone to set up his own household.
Email me direct if you would like, poohbearable(a)hotmail.com
Look forward to hearing from you again.

link to Killebrew photos.. the only photos of Chunn would be Nancy A. Chunn William Henry Killebrews wife and her grave stone both sides. Which are very crude but considering the times The photo is a charcoal or lead pencile drawing..but comparing the photos of William Henry with his second family of kids and the same type of drawing..the artist was very good at getting his subject and drawing to look alike so I fee that this is a true likeness of her. I would be verry interested in knowing more about Nancy Chunn's side of the family and more photos and letters ect. If you would be willing to share. We, alot of Nancy Chunn researchers felt we have reached a dead end with her so any information would be greatly received and enjoyed....I have been typing in some letters James T. Killebrew passed on to me from 1983 he had worked on.. and I am in the process of putting them in to a format where they can be shared... I feel like I have moved back in time to the 1800's re typing these letters and know how much time he has spent typing them and analysing them... but doing it this way and having them on the computer will make it so they will never have to be typed again....I hope.
