I would love any info that you have concerning him. Thank you so much in advance. You can email direct at poohbearable(a)hotmail.com

Capt. William Neilson Chunn was born January 19, 1835, in Warm Springs, Buncombe Co., N. C., which was his maternal grandparents' old home. He was the youngest of five children born to Joseph and Catherine (Neilson) Chunn, born in North Carolina and of Scotch descent. Joseph Chunn was an extensive farmer and stock grower and was also a prosperous merchant. He died in 1847 or 1848. His wife was the daughter of William Neilson, one of the wealthy planters of North Carolina. He was a soldier in the war of 1812, and was given a land grant of 50,000 acres by the Government. Mrs. Chunn was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and died at the age of fifty-two years. Our subject was brought to West Tennessee in his boyhood days and was reared on a farm. He was attending college when his elder brother died and he immediately returned and began overseeing the estate. In 1861 he joined the Confederate Army and was appointed second lieutenant of artillery and assigned duty with C!
apt. Andrew Jackson's company, at the Hermitage. He was made adjutant when the army was reorganized. He took an active part in many important engagements. He was captured at Vicksburg; but after being in captivity eight months, was released. At a later period he began serving under Gen. Forest, as first lieutenant of artillery, and served until the close of the war. He was a faithful and true soldier, and was ever at his post of duty. After his return he resumed farming, but a year later began merchandising at Humboldt, where he continued until 1884. He farmed on a small scale in later years, but is now living a retired life upon the fruits of a well spent life. He is a Democrat, and August 6, 1873, was married to Annie E. Transon, of Humboldt, born November 3, 1850, in Madison County. To them was born one son-Guy, who died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Chunn are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and he is a member of the K. of H.

Greetings from Seattle,
Some Chunns lived in my house, and I'm researching them as part of a large
compilation of individuals associated with my house.
This includes a Carl C, Glen W, and Charlotte Chunn. I think that Glen was
Carl's son; Glen and Charlotte were married. They all lived in Seattle, Wa,
at least between the years 1947 - 1951.
If anyone has information on these individuals, I'd love to hear about it!

Thank you for the info on Joseph Spencer Chunn. He was
apparently a good friend of my Great Great Grandfather's
family. He had a ffarm 2-3 miles from Baldwin Harle At
White Pine,Tn. His farm was adjacent to the Beth Car
Chapel. He was an active member of the church. He
donated 1 acre of land to the church for their cemetary.
You can log in to Beth Car on yahoo by just typing in
Beth Car Chapel.
What I'm really interested in is JS's father. Our family
lore is that Baldwin was orphaned in 1769 in Alexandria,
VA. and that he was raised by a man named Chunn who
bought goods from ships in Baltimore and took them by
wagons throgh VA, NC, into TN. and that young Baldwin
went with him until around 1766 when Baldwin remained in
TN.Do you knwo any thing more about J Samuel? JSwaw
between 30-40 years in 1830 census and Baldwin was
63 years old so JS was too young. Thanks for a reply'
JB hARLE.

I previously posted a message concerning Joseph
Spencer Chunn. I now think he was married to Catherine Nielson[dau of wm Nielson]Cuunn. He lived in White Pine
TN which is near Morristown, TN It was then in Jefferson Co.
I now think he was too young to have raised Baldwin
Harle, however his father, J Samuel Chunn of North
Carolina could have been the one.I would appreciate hearing
from anyone knowing of these families.
