It's really funny. I didn't know that there were so many "Chunn's" in the world. I thought my last name was pretty unique being that I'm not chinese or of any asian decent at all. At least I don't think so. I really don't know much about my family history, past my grandmother. Doesn't help that both my parents are deceased either. I was rather young to ask ?? about our history when they died. Kids don't usually worry about that cuz they're too tied up w/ just being a kid. My grandmother has told me a few different stories so I don't ask anymore. I would like to hear about anything that may help me begin my travel into the past. My father's name was Leon Chunn and he was born in Georgia. All I know about his father was that his name was SGT. Chunn in the US Army. He died when my father was young too. We're African American's but my family is rather light skinned. Most people think that we're spanish because of the light skin and light colored eyes that some of us have, inclu!
ding my father. Any information that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello to CHUNN/KILLEBREW/BAZZLE/SLAUGHTER/COLLEY researchers!
I have been working on a puzzle tonight, and I would like some input
from any one with knowledge to help out. Please bear with me as I explain my
plight.
A look at the 1850 Calloway County census could offer a clue as to
siblings or cousins of our Nancy CHUNN. While looking at the house numbers
of these people, with exception of the first one, Andrew Slaughter, I'm
finding that several CHUNN [or CHUN] women were next door neighbors. I
include Andrew Slaughter here, because I found a marriage record in Richmond
Co., NC for an Andrew Slaughter and Polly CHUNN. Now, this Andrew doesn't
appear to have "Polly" as his wife, but he comes from NC and travels to TN
and then KY, and his age seems appropriate, so I'm wondering if he maybe just
followed the CHUNN/SLAUGHTER/BAZZELL/KILLEBREW/COLLEY clans because of Polly
and then maybe remarried.
OK ... now here's my thinking ... We have Nancy CHUNN and Obedience J.
CHUNN, and Andrew SLAUGHTER, who may have been husband of a Polly CHUNN, of
course, I have also found a posting that lists a Polly CHUNN who is wife of
A. C. Coley, b. NC, whose descendants also end up in Calloway Co., KY.
At any rate, my thinking is that all of these CHUNN folks are kin to
each other ... if not siblings, then cousins. Can any one offer any input
here?

OK ... now for more ... I have found some records that are starting to
point to Sylvester CHUNN as being the grandfather or father to more than just
Henry B. CHUNN, also of Calloway Co, who married Obiedence SHIRES, who
appears to be from the same Maury Co./Marshall Co., TN area that Sylvester
resided in at his death. We know that Henry CHUNN was the son of Sylvester,
and that Henry B. CHUNN was the son of Henry.
Sylvester hailed to Maury Co., TN from Richmond Co., NC with his
friend James Norman SMITH. Sylvester and his descendants are the only CHUNN
family that I have been able to find in the Richmond Co. area of NC. So, I
have been working on putting together a list of his children. Of course,
Henry is the one that I have proof of, but I have reason to believe [from
marriage records that I have found for Richmond Co., NC] that he may have had
a daughter by the name of Betsy CHUNN who married a Lewis PITTMAN, a daughter
by the name of Polly CHUNN who married Andrew SLAUGHTER, and a son by the
name of Berry CHUNN who married [#1] Martha SLAUGHTER.
I have also found a Sylvester Littleberry "Berry" CHUNN in MS who I
believe to be the same Berry CHUNN that hailed from NC and was most probably
the son of Sylvester. I also have reason to believe that a Bowlin CHUNN
[found in MS] was also a son of Sylvester, and I believe him to be the father
of Obedience J. CHUNN, her name being respect to his mother, Sylvester's
first first, Obedience. I have several other names that I may prove someday
to be the children of Sylvester, but I'm still working on them.
SO .... I need some feedback here ... Can anyone prove/disprove any of
the above? I'd love to hear from you.
Hugs to all,
Nancy
To all,
today I got the death certificate for Rebecca Ann ROWLAND CHUNN
daughter of Wiley ROWLAND and Elizabeth AKERS
her spouse is listed as Cornelia CHUNN
on her sons death certificate he's listed as Neal CHUNN
this death certificate indicates Wiley and Elizabeth were her parents
and that she was buried in LaGrange, GA
that's 1 more piece to the puzzle
I have interest in Neal & Rebecca ROWLAND CHUNN's descendants
if you have any information on them please e-mail me
thanks & take care, Debbie

Hey Ya'll.
There is never too much traffic on our surname list. Just dig it up and send
em on. Perhaps we can learn more about the relatives that we are all looking
for at the same time!
Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Hi cousins,
I am in HUGE need of everyone's help! My oldest grandson [10 years
old] has a 6 month Family History Project that he has to work on and will be
graded on during this school year. (Which I think is GREAT because it will
hopefully get him interested in researching his family trees at an early age
... I praise the teacher that thought of this as a project for the children!)
I have not done a lot of research with regard to the military
connections on our branch of the CHUNN trees as of yet, so I am begging any
of you who are in possession of military information for any of our CHUNN
ancestors/relations who have served in any of the military branches in any
function to please send me whatever information you can about that relative.
As I am not sure how soon Derek will need this information, I would be
very grateful if you could/would send it as soon as you have an opportunity.
It doesn't make any difference to me if that person is a direct descendant or
a branch of my direct descendants. If the name is in my tree, I can look it
up and find out how they are related to Derek.
It is my understanding that he needs to know their name, rate, rank,
branch of service, conflicts [if any known] they were engaged in, and any
other pertinent information that you might have ... maybe home state, length
of service life, etc.
If Dianne thinks this would be to much for the list to handle, please
feel free to send me any information to my private email ...
NMW31949(a)aol.com. If not, then this little project for Derek might also be
of big help to all of us.
I would be extremely grateful for any help that you can give me and my
grandson to help him get a good grade on his project!
Thank you all,
Nancy Sue
Hey Ya'll,
I'm searching for my Chunn cousin's, that has connections too
Jonesboro,Craighead Co,AR? I know that my cousin Calvin Elsworth Chunn,
moved to CA,after WWII and got his PH D. I know he was researching his
Kellett Family extensively. I believe Calvin E.Chunn died in 1983. My
dad has a picture of him wearing a Marines Uniform. My dad was named a
Calvin Elsworth Chunn. Calvin married a Jenkens.
My 3rd Great-Grandparents Josiah Kellett & Elizabeth J.Wrenfrow had a
daughter Margaret Elizabeth " Peggy " on February 21st,1853. Peggy was
married on September 2nd,1880 to Benjamin Franklin " Frank " Chunn. He
was born February 4th,1860, in Kentucky I believe. Margaret and Frank
Chunn had a son John Calvin, born December 19th,1883 and he married
Sally Gelena Kirby. Then they had Calvin Elsworth Chunn.
Hello Di, it's been a while since I've been on the Chunn's List. I
hope ya don't mind me sending this too the list? I've been trying too
locate my cousin's, because I'm also a Calvin Elsworth. I heard a lot
about the Chunn's, but never met them and I've always wanted too know
the family, I was named after.
Thank Ya, Calvin Elsworth Kellett Jr...
Hey Ya'll,
I need a little help here. I need some folks to write a small item to be
posted to the list once a week. You can write one, or you can write a dozen.
This is by no means the limit, anyone can write what they think is relevant
regarding genealogy or their search and memories of a particular interest to
the list. I have abt 20 lists that I administrate and I do not want to let
any of them fail. We all need to contribute to the "pot". Please email me off
list if you wish to help.... this is not for professional writers. Its for
all of us. I just want you folks to help with the direction that this list
needs to take.
Thank you all.
Dianne

Nancy,
You're right. Jasper is white. I don't think I'm the one who said he was
mulatto, was I? Of course the census that might have told us something
is good old 1890 census. Do you know where Nancy Ann and William were
married?
