Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Jennifer, thank you for that information. I hope that it is useful to some of
our members. However, I would like to urge ALL of you to be careful when
posting information about descendents and ancestors that are still alive. Be
wary of giving out personal information that they may not want so easily
available. There are options, you can simply type (living) in the name
space.. etc..
It may be something that you want to think about!

Good Morning all!
I have not seen much email coming through the list lately and found that one
of Rootsweb servers were down. If anyone has posted any messages that have
not come through in the last week, please contact me at
SunshineNative(a)aol.com.
I am hoping to see more activity on the list, I know that our posting seems
to be cyclical, depending on how much time we each have to spend on our
genealogy.
I am looking forward to hearing more from you all.
Thanks again. You are a great list!

Hi Ya'll,
Just a reminder to everyone to complete and mail in your 2000 census forms.
With the 72-year Federal privacy rule, think about making a copy and
filing it with your genealogy papers for the future. If you've already
mailed yours, pick up another blank form (Someone on another list says she
thinks she saw extras in various stores -Barnes And Nobles, etc. and possibly
the post office.) Fill it in, and file it with the rest of your Family
Ancestry Notes.

Hello Ya'll,
This morning while searching for new information on line, I ran across an
interesting site. It is listed as a tributed to Purple Heart Recipients. But
if you scroll around it will lead you to some genealogical sites, some that I
have not seen before. The URL is:

and this should be a clickable link- but not guarunteed!

Ed Malesky made the following post to Chunn GenForum. March 29, 2000
An article found by Regina Roper, entitled The Chunn Family from England to
America, indicated that it is likely that the Chunn name originated in
Cornwall, England. Near Penzance are the ruins of Chun Castle. The name
Chun (pronounced Choon) is formed from two ancient Cornish words; Chy,
meaning house and Wun, meaning downland referring to the high ground in
Cornwall. The name therefore means, "house on high ground".
Posts # 31, 44, and 56 refer to the origin of Chunns in England.
They are found under Chunn at <http://www.genforum.com>
Hi Judy,
I have a couple of John Thomas CHUNN's listed in my files. One is the son of
Zachariah CHUNN (1742 - 1797) and Deborah TURNER. He is one of 9 children.
The other is the son of Andrew CHUNN (1702 - 1756) and Sarah (possibly
DAVIS). He is one of 7 children and a brother to the above listed Zachariah.
I have no dates and no spouses for either John Thomas.
I have another John Thomas CHUNN 1825 - 1891 married to Maria (or Mohiah)
SHIRES. Right in front of me, I do not have any locations.
I will look for locations and get back with you.
I hope you find your John Thomas. Good luck.

Sounds like you have trees almost as bare as some of mine. Do you, or anyone
else on the list know the origin of the name Chunn?

My Chunn Research
I am looking mainly for descendants of John Thomas Chunn. He was born in
1780 in Maryland and is not the John Thomas Chunn (1749 - 1804) who left a
will in Faquier Co. Virginia. The John Thomas with the will is older
and had no children. John Thomas is the son of Zachariah Chunn and
Deborah Turner. He left Virginia at some date not known to me but in
April, 1812 he is enlisted in the 19th Infantry from OHIO ?. He is in
Clarke Co, Indiana by 1809 and the Clarke Co history book says he had sons
who grew up to be riverboat captains. This first wife's name is unknown as
well as the names of the children. What happens to her and the children is
a puzzle for John Thomas is busy in the Battle of Tippecanoe and in the
war of 1812 where he is breveted Major for his bravery in the defense of
Fort Erie. I can find no further information on this first family. They
don't seem to be with him at any later time. He is then in charge of Fort
Harrison in Vigo Co., Indiana until sent to Detroit in 1820. About this
time he marries a second time to Matilda LeMarche and settles down on
property he obtained in Vermillion Co, just north of Vigo. This second
family I can account for, but I am eager to accumulate all descendants. I
don't think any of them carry the name Chunn unless I can find the sons
from the first marriage.
In the process of hunting for them I have also collected any INDIANA,
ILLINOIS, and OHIO Chunns that I have run across. They fit roughly into
trees with a lot of question marks.
Any information in your files on any of these Chunns or Chunn relatives who
ventured North would be very much appreciated. I am happy to share if I
have any information you need.

Mr Youngblood,
Questions, from some one who has no clue, William Henry Killebrew and Nancy
Ann Chunn are buried in Asbury- could you please tell me where that would be?
Houston Golden MILLER and Virginia Hendrick were buried there also?
Seems that if it were me I would contact who might be in charge of the
cemetary. If they have any records, or if that cemetary has been Surveyed,
then you might get enough information that you could get past this spot.
Have you checked the genweb cemetary records?

My grandmother knew only that her father's name was HOUSTON GOLDEN MILLER and
that he was raised by his grandmother CHUNN. Since her death, I have learned
that Houston Golden MILLER was born March 23, 1861 and died Dec 27, 1887 of
pneumonia. He married Virginia Hendrick between 1878 and 1882. I have learned
that his father was Golden J Miller and that he born abt 1841 and that he died of
disease in the Civil War on June 6, 1863. He married Louisa F Clinton on Sept
29, 1859.
I believe that GRANDMA CHUNN must have been the mother of either Golden J MILLER
or Louisa F CLINTON MILLER. But I am unable to prove either relationship! I
have determined from various census records that Grandma CHUNN was born Nancy
Bazzell, between 1820-1825, daughter of Richard L Bazzell or Boswell. She
married Garet C CHUNN July 10, 1839 in Calloway Co, KY.
Does anyone know anything about Garret CHUNN. I have his DOB as between 1810 -
1820, but I would like to know his DOD, and his parents.
Was he a brother to Nancy Ann Chunn who married William Henry Killebrew?
If so, were they of Indian blood?
Could Louisa Clinton have been a CHUNN but perhaps have changed her name to hide
Indian heritage?
I believe that these families were at least neighbors because Houston Golden
MILLER and Virginia Hendrick MILLER were buried in Asbury Cemetery where William
Henry Killebrew and Nancy Ann Chunn were buried. Please solve this for me - it's
become a 5 year obsession and my wife can't take it anymore!

Mary!!!!
I have always had a desire to start at the *end* (meaning earliest ) and work
forward-(to prsent) BUT - that since I began my search for the lost
ancestors, It usually ends up that I have to keep starting over.. SO.. lets
start with present and work back? maybe 5 generations at the time? I would
love to see what you have!!!! ( as would the others on our list!!) You choose
how many you can do at a time that will co0nnect but not short circuit my lil
ol brain!!!
Dianne
Its okay to brag about your family tree
if it has produced at least some good timber
along with all those nuts!!
Hi Dianne,
Please let me know if I should start with the most recent CHUNN name or
should I start with the earliest CHUNN. The earliest I have is John CHUNN
born prior to 1683. It is said he came to America from England. The most
recent I have is my great grandmother, Holly CHUNN born 1843. I have
CHUNN's listed from "A" to "Z", starting with Andrew and going through
Zachariah.
Let me know which way to start and how much you want at a time.
Thanks for your time.

I have only just now set up the administrative part of the new list. I am
glad to see that we have already gotten 5 subscribers to the digest.
I do not know very much about the CHUNN line, but hope to learn more over the
next weeks and months. If any of you wonder what I am the list-owner for the
CHUNN surname, ask Nancy Sue, its HER fault!!!
Lets get some conversation going so I can catch up with you all. I have
advertised the list on 4 websites now and I am hoping to find new subscribers
as we move along.
Please let me know about your CHUNN relatives, send your emails to :
