Family Tree DNA has hit 5,000 "likes" on their FaceBook page, and is offering a 40% discount for any test ordered in the next 24 hours, for brand new members. They started at 10AM this morning. For instance, a 37 marker Y-DNA test kit that is regular $149.00 would only be $89.40. That is a substantial savings. The sales code "5000FACES" is needed when ordering. You would go to http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/cholmondeley/ if you chose to place an order, and click on "Order Test" in the tool bar along the top of the Cholmondeley webpage. You can make your payment on-line, also, using a credit card.

Dear Chumney, Chumley, Chumbley, Cholmondeley cousins,
My name is Eddie Chumney. I am the owner of the website on Chumney / Chumley / Chumbley / Cholmondeley family research located at:
http://www.hebroots.com/chumney.htmlhttp://www.hebroots.com/marrcens.htmlhttp://www.hebroots.com/chumney_researchers.html
Many have benefitted from this website over the years.
I have had two main goals of the website:
1) Primarly trace Chumney / Chumley / Chumbley / Cholmondeley family history from the 1700's through 1850 as people can trace their own family history through the US Census from 1850 to connect to the early colonialists.
Most family members originally in VA, NC and SC left these areas and went to KY, TN, TX, AL among other states. My desire is to link particular families to migration areas to help other researchers
2) Keep a list of Chumney / Chumley / Chumbley / Cholmondeley family researchers and their descendents to help researchers connect with each other
While my website information is very comprehensive and detailed for the research years 1996 - 2000, I have been lax the last 10 years keeping current with new researchers. However, this can be easily recovered from the rootsweb, genealogy and other forums which deal with these surnames given that postings to the Chumley forum is not that large from year to year.
Part of my reason for suspending updating new information since 2000 was because I was not able to resolve how various Chumley etc lines were related in the late 1700's. This caused me to lose some of my research enthusiasm. However, I have learned that this mystery can be solved through DNA.
There is now a Chumney / Chumley / Chumbley / Cholmondeley and related spellings DNA website showing results of those who have been tested.
It is located at:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/cholmondeley/resultshttp://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/cholmondeley/pats
>From only a small testing sample, we have been able to resolve some major questions that researchers have had for years.
Originally, I thought that ALL Chumney, Chumley, Chumbley etc families in Colonial America were related going back to England. However, DNA results have shown that this is not so.
1) We have determined that the Robert Chumley who married Betsy Ford who lives in Giles, VA in the late 1700's is related to John Chumlea and Margaret Shipe lines.
However this line is NOT related to John Chumley and Martha Lockett family of the late 1700's family line.
2) We have determined that John Chumney who married Elizabeth Andrews in NC in the last 1700's whose family moved to AL are NOT related to the Robert Chumley and Betsy Ford lines or the John Chumley and Martha Lockett lines.
3) A descendent of John Chumley and Martha Lockett has been tested and confirms that this line is NOT related to Robert Chumley and Betsy Ford of Giles, VA OR John Chumney and Elizabeth Andrews in NC.
I have only known of this DNA website for several weeks. I have decided to get my DNA tested to make the existing results stronger.
>From my research the MAIN line that has not been tested yet is the family line of Richard Chumley / Cholmondeley who married Grace Milam in 1756 in Goochland county who later moved to Halifax and Pittsylvania counties in VA in the 1780's and 1790's.
This line also includes Daniel Chumley who moved to Wilson County and I believe John Chumley who moved to San Augustine, TX area.
I believe that this family line is connected to an existing line that has already been tested. But, we need to prove it.
Recently, an individual connected to the Pittsylvania Chumley's have agreed to get tested.
But, we need others who are willing to help.
In order to help some current outstanding issues and strengthen our existing findings, we need volunteers for DNA testing in the following areas:
1) Volunteers related to Richard Chumley / Grace Milam and those related to the Chumley's living in Halifax and Pittsylvania counties
2) Volunteers related to John Chumley / Delilah Russell who moved from VA to San Augustine County, TX
3) Volunteers related to William Chumley ancestors who lived in Nottoway, Lunenberg and Pulaski counties, VA.
4) Volunteers related to John Chumley and Elizabeth Dickens from Prince Edward county, VA
Of course, the more volunteers tested the better. It only gives more strength to our current findings.
William Craig Lawrence is the admin of the DNA website. If you have further questions, please contact him at:
[wclaurence AT aol.com]
Will you volunteer and help yourself and other Chumney / Chumley / Chumbley / Chumlea / Cholmondeley family researchers?
In case you are not familiar with DNA testing, we need MALE volunteers and the family surname DNA testing is done through the Y-Chromo male line ... father to son to son etc.
Order a test kit today!
Thank you for your help!
Eddie Chumney (related to John Chumley and Martha Lockett of Amelia and Prince Edward county, VA in the late 1700's)
