Message Board Post:
Greetings to you two Travis Chumleys in Claiborne County. Over the two years that we last corresponded on this board, have you given any further consideration to DNA testing? Since the Cholmondeley DNA surname group started up, we have grown to seven members. We do not have anyone in the group that descends from Robert Chumley and Betsy Ford. When a male tests their Y-DNA, they are also testing all the males in their paternal line, because the results for each of them will match. This testing helps to determine who is, and who is not, a family member.
It would be good to have a male descendant from Robert Chumley (1786 VA.) and Betsy Ford test, to represent their family line. We have a member who descends from John Chumlea (1781 VA.) and Margaret Shipe, who has hit a brick wall. It appears that neither John Chumlea or Robert Chumley descend from the John Chumley and Elizabeth Dickens/John Chumley and Martha Locket line. It would be beneficial to see if John Chumlea and Robert Chumley were related, in order to possibily break through the brick walls.
Best regards.
Craig Laurence
