I am searching for parents/siblings and birth place for John Chumlea b. 1871 VA. Details follow.
Based on bible records, census reporting, and cemetery records, John Chumlea was born February 28, 1781 in Virginia. This Chumlea surname is a variation of the English surname of Cholmondeley, and the "Chumlea" spelling is not a common spelling in North America. John married Margaret Shipe, daughter of Peter Shipe (Scheib) and Elizabeth Walker. Margaret was born on May 29, 1785 in Virginia. It is believed that John and Margaret married sometime around 1801 in Virginia, then made their way through Eastern Kentucky, and ended up down in Knox County in Tennessee around 1803. John and Margaret raised their family in Knox County, and then, about 1833-35, they moved from Knox County to Fountain County, Indiana. Some of their children moved to Indiana with them, while some stayed in Tennessee.
