In Don Chumley's posting, he mentions a John Chumley who had three sons: (1) Larkin C. Chumley, (2) William Thomas Chumley, and (3) Coleman Chumley who were all born in Pittsylvania Co., VA in the early 1800's.
I find this intriguing because my GG Uncle was William Thomas Chumney (b. ~1837 in Henry Co., AL). His father was John A. Chumney b. ~1793 in NC. The given name "William Thomas" could be a coincidence, but I'm suspicious, especially since Pittsylvania Co., VA borders North Carolina.
Could it be that William Chumny (sic) Sr. (1759 Cumberland Co., VA tithables) was also "William Thomas" and the ancestor of both William Thomas Chumley and William Thomas Chumney? If so, John Chumley, the father of Larkin, et al, could be the John Chumny (sic) also mentioned in the 1759 Cumberland Co., VA tithables.
Does anyone have any facts that refute or support my William Thomas Chumley/Chumney theory?
Regards,
Jim Chumney
