My gggfather was a Claiborne Chumley. I have little information on him except that he was, perhaps, originally from VA. A son of his was William H. Chumley (b. 1840s) who married Martha (Mattie) Teter in Obion Co. TN in 1865. (I have civil war service data on W.H., too). Whenever I research Claiborne Chumley I find another Claiborne Chumley in eastern TN with earlier dates than I think belong to my gggfather and different family names (ie wife and children). So, I surmised there may be two Claiborne Chumley's showing up in the records. Do you find any information on the Obion Co. Chumley family? I'd like to compare info. or would like you to let me know if you discovered anything about Claiborne with a son W.H. Thanks, Tonja Murphy

I found your old post. My gg grandparents, Claiboorne Chumley and Mary Johnson were married July 31, 1834 in Roane County-in the Cumberland Mountain area aof East Tennessee. I would very much like to know the names of his parents buat know it may be impossible to find them. I think he may have come from Virginia but know many of them settled in Knox County. I wonder if you have any information about the Chumley who lived earliler in East Tennessee? My Claiborne was first married and had a chld, Elizabeth Chumley who married a Butler and later moved to Missouri. He also had a son, Jessee Chumley, who died in Anderson Confdeerate prison in Goergia. Thanks for any hellp.

Hi! Any relation to Thomas Monroe Chumley? I'm looking for a picture of him to compare to my ancestors--it's believed he fathered three sons of my great great grandmother, Susan Elizabeth Arnold.
Any reply would be appreciated, Carol Arnold McBeath
Thanks!!

Hi! It's said that one of John Chumley's sons, Thomas Monroe Chumley, fathered three sons of Susan Elizabeth Arnold.
Do you or any of your relatives have any pictures of Thomas Monroe Chumley so that I can compare to my great grandfather, grandfather, and father?
Do you know who Irons Lincoln Chumley in the 1860 San Augustine census belongs?? I don't think he's part of John Chumley's group.
Thanks for any reply, Carol Arnold McBeath

I'd love to get my brother's DNA tested. It is said that my great great grandmother had three children by a Thomas Monroe Chumley in San Augustine, TX. I would love to confirm this--I can't confirm my Arnold line because of this problem.
Please keep me in mind--I can be reached at mcbeathn(a)hotmail.com.
Thanks, Carol
