I have some information on Robert Chumley, married Betsy Elizabeth Ford. I do list a father and grandfather for Robert....I list Robert's father; John Chumley, married Elizabeth Dicken. I list John's father (Robert's grandfather) as John Chumley, married Martha (fairly sure it is Martha Lockett).
If you send me your mailing address, I'll mail you what I have.
My e-mail address is rchumbley(a)dcmc.kuwait.army.mil, if you would like to contact me directly. I will attempt to e-mail a .ged file to you later this week....currently our e-mail / internet has "gremlins".
I'd appreciate any infomation on Lewis Garret Chumley and Lewis Franklin Chumley and families.
Thanks
I too have been doing some research and according to what I have the name is
Garrett Lewis Chumley. I know his brother, Daniel Huff Chumley, my Great
Grandfather, is buried in the Chumley cemetery in Arthur, Tenn. (seen the
headstone myself). My father, Earl Kettron Chumley, went to Daniel's funeral
there also. You might want to check with Travis Chumley at
travchumley(a)centuryinter.net, that's who I got it from.
As for Robert: I believe him to be the son of John Chumley who resided in
Amelia County Virginia. I went to Amelia County Courthouse in Amelia, Va. and
obtained a copy of a handwritten will for John Chum(b)ley dated December 11,
1780. In this document John Chumley bequeaths property, including slaves, to
his wife Martha. He also leaves property to his children: Anne, Francis?
(hard to read), Martha, ROBERT and William. How do we know this is your
Robert (and mine)? I'm not sure!
I'm not sure if John Chumley hand wrote this document or if someone else
wrote it for him but the name Chumley is spelled CHUMLEY throughout the
entire narrative and then the son of a gun signs his name CHUMBLEY. Why? I
don't know! I guess it just wasn' t that important back then.
Anyway that's my two cents worth.

I was doing some more research and found a listing for Lewis Garrett Chumley married to Annie Hammock. I believe you just have the first and middle named inverted. I found listings for children..Van Weems, Emmer Scot (daughter), Tilmon, James Roy, William Wheeler, Landon (died at 24), and Garrett Neal. I have traced this line back to Lewis Franklin Chumley (b 1808 virginia...died 1880 in TN). Lewis F. being my great great great grandfather. I know Robert Chumley from Virginia was his father, but have nothing further. Do have any info on Robert? Thank you so much for your time Richard!
Looking for information on the family of Winston and Louise Hanson Chumley
who lived in Chicago. They were married in Maine. I believe that they had a
daughter by the name of Sandra, am not sure if there were other children.
Would love to find their descendants.
Leslie
I don't think the information I have is your Dan Chumley, married Matilda.
I list Daniel Huff Chumley, married Matilda Hale Bryant, 9 children; none with a first name of Lewis. There is a son named Garrett Lewis Chumley, married Anne Hammock. However, I list only one child, Neal Chumley; no William Wheeler Chumley.
If you would still like the information on Daniel Huff Chumley I can mail it to you, just need a mailing address.
Sorry, I couldn't help more.
Richard Chumbley
Thank you Richard for your reply. It sounds like it may be the right Dan Chumley. My great grandfather was Lewis Chumley and my grandfather was William Wheeler Chumley.
Any information you may have would be very much appreciated!
I list a Daniel Huff Chumley, married Matilda Hale Bryant. Daniel born near Arthur, Claiborne County, Tennessee, 12 May 1835; died Arthur, Claiborne County, Tennessee, 22 May 1924.
I s this the correct person ? Although this is not my direct ancestry, I have some information. Could you give me your ggrandfather and grandfather's name ?
I was wondering if anyone could help me fill in the blanks.
My Great Great Grandfather was Dan Chumley his wife Matilda. Is this familiar to anyone? I know nothing any further back than this about the family.
No...I found Virgil and my mother living happily in Tennessee. My mom posted a message on the board and we found each other!!! Yeah!!! Thanks for your support!!!

I have important questions to ask. We communicated once before. Now, I think I have some intelligent questions about Wm. Baxter Chumley. I just spent four days researching in Spartanburg, SC

I am searching for ancestors and/or siblings of JOHN CHUMLEA, b. 29 Feb 1781
VA, d. 31 May, 1861 Fountain Co., IN; m. Margaret SHIPE, b. 29 May 1785, d.
24 June 1866 Fountain Co., IN. I don't know where they met or were married.
Margaret was the daughter of Peter SHIPE and Elizabeth WALKER (Welker).
There is a TN Historical Marker (in Knox Co., TN) which states, "PETER SHIPE
Born in 1738, he lived near Natural Bridge, VA, until enlisting in the
Revolutionary Army. He served later as baggagemaster for Gen. George
Washington. Following his service, he came here and occupied the grant made
to him. He died in 1823 and is buried on the land he once owned." John and
Margaret CHUMLEA had 10 children born between 1802 and 1824 in Knox Co., TN
(probably). They moved to Fountain Co, IN, with some of these children
prior to 1840, probably around 1836. If anyone can shed any light on the
parents and/or siblings of John (b. 1781), it will be greatly appreciated.
