The surnames you mention are also close to the spelling of the surname Chumney. I have a grandmother 3 generations ago named Mary Chumney who married Micajah C. Rowland in Pittsylvania County, Va. Mary's father signed the marriage consent as Francis Chumney. He could have been from the county just below and adjacent to Pittsylvania County, Va in North Carolina. This marriage occurred on January 10, 1835. I would appreciate any information on the family of Chumney's.

Many years ago I speculated the Chumbler family is actually--Chumley. I don't think anyone took me seriously at the time, but I am still convinced many from the Chumbler family are Chumley.
Let me give a very brief explanation:
1790-1810 Census Records, Spartanburg, SC, Thompson Chumley was known as Chumley. After he moved to Old Pendleton/Pickens County, SC, he was known as CHUMBLER. His family continued using that name, but I am sure Thompson's surname was truly--Chumley.
When some of his descendants moved to Georgia, they used the name--CHUMBLER. Others from Thompson's family used the surname--Chumley after 1840.
I have been trying to locate a male Chumbler who descends from William Warren Chumbler who will participate in a Y-DNA test so that we can compare the Y-DNA with Chumley males from Spartanburg.
These Chumley males whose ancestors settled in Spartanburg, SC, match 100% with one another. The descendants of William Young Chumley who moved to Alabama match John Chumley whose family stayed in the Spartanburg area.
I am sure Thompson Chumley aka CHUMBLER was the brother of William and John Chumley whose descendants Y-DNA match with 100% accuracy.
I believe William Warren Chumbler was a descendant of Thompson Chumley aka CHUMBLER.
I believe Mason Chumbley/Chumley aka Mason Chumbler was quite possibly the father of William Warren Chumbler, and if Mason was not his father, then, another male from Thompson Chumley/Chumbler was William Warren's father.
PLEASE, help me find a male who will participate in the dna test.
I will be willing to help with the cost.
The Chumbler male who volunteers for this project must use www.familytreedna.com. The name of the project is--Cholmondeley.
But, please contact me first so that I can guide the person through the process.
I am currently working with another male Chumley who was told his ggg grandfather was adopted by the Chumley family, but his y-dna is beginning to show that is not true, and that he is a descendant of the Chumley family from Spartanburg, SC.
