Hi, All! What a weird coincidence! We had taped some shows off of the
History Channel to watch. Last night we watched one called "The History
of Britain" and it covered the time period of Walpole! They showed
Houghton Hall and talked about the history of it as well as Walpole. He
was quite interesting. Any way I thought you all might be interested to
see if you can find the show sometime. It is the one that lists:
Britannia Incorporated 2002--
Economic expansion sees the birth of the consumer society.

Further to the message left by Helen Pust, most of the Chumbley's residing in or around Belleville ON are likely descendants of Frederick William CHUMBLEY and Elizabeth Sarah (WORSFOLD). Elizabeth had 8 other siblings, Benjamin, Ethel, Ada, Jessie, Louise, Ruth, Rachel, & Walter many of whom moved west to Alberta and British Columbia. Sisters Louise (Sanderson) and Ruth (Mortenson) subsequently married and settled in Medina NY, USA..
We are currently researching and attempting to trace and contact the families of Louise and Ruth. Anyone with any information on these families please contact me at mmariah2001(a)shaw.ca

Hi, All! I know it has been a long time since you all have heard
from me!! I have not been doing much research since I have been busy
with other things, but I am finally getting my trip to Europe!! Michael
and I are going for 3 weeks for our 20th anniversary! We made
reservations 19 years ago when I found out I was pregnant and not able
to travel because of complications. Now I am finally getting the chance
to go. Lately I have been tied up with my disaster relief work. From
July until November, 2004 I was only home for about 15 days (and out of
those no more than 2-3 days in a row!) Things finally started settling
down in February, but then I went with the youth to Panama and two weeks
later left for Thailand where we worked with Tsunami victims. Now I am
getting ready for this vacation. YEAH!!
Any way I not only wanted to touch base with all of you, but wanted
to ask if there is anything I could check out quickly or get for anyone
while we are in England. We are planning on staying at the Chomondeley
Arms and going to see Chomondeley Castle while the gardens are open. I
will take digital pictures while I am there. We will also visit the
tower of London where one of the famous Chomondeley men is buried. If
anyone has any suggestions for anything please let me know!!
Hope all is well for all of you!!

Well all I can say that Coatney was a call name or a nickname. She is
indeed listed as Coatney in the census records, one never knows what a
census taker will do, but yes she should have been listed as her given
name is legal records. But you will not always find this so.

Glenda,
Sometimes my typing fingers get wayyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of my thinking.
The second paragraph should read "I, too, noted that many Cains lived close
to Chumbleys, and that there were several Cain/Chumbley marriages and also
cross-signatures on deeds." There still are Cains and Chumbleys who live in
that section of Russell County.
I just got back from a farewell dinner to one of our pastors -- it
lasted three hours, our church is not air-conditioned, and it is very hot
and muggy here. But we needed the rain, and I don't like ice storms -- so I
should just enjoy the natural sauna.

Forgot to add that John J. Chumbley married Margaret Cain 15 Aug 1861
Russell Co., KY
So the Cain family was connected more than once with the Chumbley
families.
This Margaret Cain was a daughter of Ephriam Cain, and Margaret had a
brother named Ephriam.
John J. and Samuel were brothers. Lewis W. that married Armina was a
1/2 brother to John and Samuel.

Does anyone on the list know of a Joe Vaughn Chumley who married Dessie Lou Lewis in Tennessee - probably in Lake County, TN. They were living in Memphis and later moved to some place in Kentucky. Dessie Lou is my mother's first cousin and I have been trying to locate them.

First, please be kind if I have made typographical or other errors. One takes a risk in sharing information, but perhaps one can find what Walt Whitman called "faint clues and indirections" even in material that may contain errors.
A year or so ago Andy Chumbley sent me a photograph of some Russell/Pulaski counties (Kentucky) Chumbleys. I believe I have not identified most of the people in the photo, including Dr. Charles Chumbley & children (they were identified by Andy), and several of John J.’s children. Names on the back include: Green, Rosa, John Chumbley; Louis & Mary Harden; John & Martha Chumbley; Sarah Cain; Louetta & Everit Luttrell; Victoria & Harvey Con?dor; , Green, Sarah & Mary; Victoria and Louetta; Dr. Chumbley, Ralph, Roy; etc.
If these names interest you, let me know.
