Yes, apparently those are the correct children. A few years back Richard
Chumbley posted information on this family to this list, which you can see
incorporated into my database below. I have added the draft card
information. I just looked in the 1910 Lawrence Co. Census and did not find
them, nor have I found the marriage records in the transcriptions from
Lawrence Co. Hope this helps you. Others may have more. Barbara Meger

My great-grandmother was Zena Beasley and she had an older sister named Ona who married Ernest Claudius Chumbley. The couple lived somewhere in southwest Missouri.
Ernest Claudius Chumbley died in Los Angeles on 5/11/1958. I did a search of the California Death Index and found three people born in Missouri to a father named Chumbley and a mother named Beasley. Are these their children?

Debbi - My computer crashed a coupl of years ago, but here is my last "unedited" notes on John Chumley, mrd. Martha Lockett's will, ia included in the followig :
------------------------------
SOURCE -(1759) Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution, abs. by G. Wathney said: "CHUMBLEY, JOHN, 74, (bn. abt. 1759- this is s/o John & Martha, Amelia Co., Va.) DAVID CO., IND. MPL" (Militia Pensions List), compiled from a report of the Secty of War in 1835, Pensions Vol II , of Men Receiving Persions for Services as Va. Militiamen, with Approximate Ages in 1833, listing the Counties of Residence at the time of Induction. Also a JOHN "CHUMLEY" was listed in "BATTLES & ENGAGEMENTS" at Chambly , Canada Oct 19, 1775 & June 6, 1776. (NOTE - JOHN "Jr" would have been abt. 16 1/2 in June 1776 & JOHN "Sr" would have been Estimated abt. 47. Which was it this time?)
SOURCE - (1760) The "MIdwestern States Pension Roll of 1835, lists JOHN CHUMLEY in DAVIESS CO., IND., going on the pension roll in 1833, at the age of 74 ( NOTE - The affidavit confirms that this is the JOHN CHUMLEY , bn. 4 Dec. 1760 in AMELIA Co., Va., the son of JOHN & MARTHA.)
(NOTE - IBID -(1760) Also listed as former soldier is "DANIEL CHUMLEY S3152, Cont Line, sol enl in Halifax Co., Va., appl 25 June 1833 Wilson Co, Tn. aged 74." (bn 1759) (Son of Richard & Grace?)

SOURCE: IBID - ( 27 SEPT. 1798 AMELIA CO., VA. ) p65 (OB 22:221), County Court Rec. lists JAMES CHUMLEY bound out .
(NOTE - abs. does NOT say who bound JAMES CHUMBLEY out, but it has to be JOHN & ELIZABETH's kids.)
SOURCE - Alberta Baker, via Megerstch(a)aol.com.. Alberta says that ELIZABETH CHUMLEY is her line into the DAR, Elizabeth CHUMLEY was bn. in 1800 in Ga. , mrd. ABRAHAM BARR in Ind.. SOURCE - (1809 - Pr. Edw. Co.,Va. ) John & Eliz. CHUMBLEY had returned to Pr. Edw. Co., Va., from WILKES Co., Ga., by 1809, as JOHN was surety for mrg. of JAMES CHUMLEY to Martha Adams, supporting the fact that JAMES was their son!)
SOURCE - The 1810 Knox Co., Ky. cns. , p81 lists JOHN CHUMLEY (00001-10001-00) & Wife , both over age 45 ( bn., bef. 1765) & girl 0-10 (bn. 1800-1809 - This should be ELIZABETH CHUMLEY that was bn. abt. 1800 in Ga.)
(NOTE - It seems that JOHN & ELIZABETH had left Va. by 1810, as there were ONLY 3 CHUMLEY families listed in the 1810 Va. cns..& the JOHN CHUMLEY family listed in KNOX CO., KY in 1810 would fit the known family structure of JOHN & ELIZABETH with their daug., since they had "bound out" & subsquently mrd. them off back in Va..- Also Alberta Baker believes that this is the same family on their way to indiana.)
SOURCE - The 1810 Va. cns. p244 , Prince Edward Co., Va. cns. lists the family of ROBERT "CHUMBLEY" (30010-22010) Rbt. & wife 26-45 (b. 1755-1784), 2 girls 10-16 (bn. 1795-1800), 3 boys & 2 girls 0-10 (bn. 1801-1810). ( NOTE - This is the son of John & Martha, NOT the ROBERT that Mrd. BETSY FORD, as children do not match up. as some are too old & wrong sex & fact that this Robt. was still in Pr. Edw. Co.,Va. in 1810., therefore the brother of JOHN CHUMLEY, that mrd. ELIZABETH DICKEN.)
The only other CHUMLEYs listed in Va. in the 1810 cns. were:
#243 of JAMES "CHUMBLEY" & wife ( Martha ADAMS) (00100-00100) 16-26 (bn. 1785-1794) with NO children.
( NOTE - This has to be JAMES CHUMLEY , s/o John Chumley & Elizabeth Dicken, James mrd. MARTHA ADAMS in Pr. Edw. Co., 16 Oct. 1809)
#243 of JOHN "CHUMBLEY" & wife (Palethia ADAMS) (20100-10100) 16-26 (bn. 1785-1794) 2 boys & 1 girl 0-10 (bn. 1801-1810).
( NOTE -This has to be JOHN CHUMLEY, s/o JOHN CHUMLEY & ELIZABETH DICKEN. John mrd. PALETHIA ADAMS 5 FEB. 1806 in Pr. Edw. Co., Va.)
SOURCE -( 15 MAY 1833) Abs. of Rev. War Pension Files, p631, lists JOHN CHUMBLEY S32169,Va. Line, sol was b 4 Dec. 1760 in Amelia Cty Va & lived there 10 yrs after the war then moved to Wilkes Cty Ga then to Bourbon Cty KY, then to Ind. 15 May 1833 Daviess Cty IND. a resident of Reeve Twnshp In.
(NOTE - IBID - Also listed as former soldier is "DANIEL CHUMLEY S3152, Cont Line, sol enl in Halifax Co., Va., appl 25 June 1833 Wilson Co, Tn. aged 74." (bn 1759) ( NOTE Daniel was the son of Richard & Grace.)

(NOTE - HYPOTHESIS: The "BIG" question, at this point , IS: - I blv. from a prepondrance of evidence that ROBERT CHUMLEY/mrdBetsyFord, is the 1st, or 2nd bn. son of JOHN & ELIZ. There is NOTHING tangible to indicate that they were, except this is the only place that all of the numbers fit! -BUT,
The pictures of the Tombstone indicate that this RBT. was bn. 1786, The earliest known children of John & Elizabeth, per cns. & other records, were born after 1786 3 yrs. AFTER the mrg. of JOHN & ELIZABETH, (Since Eliz. already had a daughter (Suzane), it is not likely that they did not have children within a year of their marriage. The circumstantial evidence of later happenings & records, seem to support the feasability of Robert Chumley & possibly the William ( both born 1781-1790), being the first born sons of JOHN, (bn 1760), & ELIZ.'s Dicken (mrd. 1783., Wm & Rbt. would have been at least 10-14 when John "bound out" the younger children, or they too, would have been "bound out". ROBERT, bn. 1786, could not have been named in JOHN & MARTHA's Will written in Dec. 1780 & judging from the year of birth (Tombstone) of the others "Our " RBT. WOULD NOT BE the son of JOHN & MARTHA, but more than likely one of the elder sons of JOHN & ELIZEBETH ! Due to the age of Robert &!
William in 1805 (19-21), they more than likely went to Montgomery/ Giles Co., Va. (Uncle William Chumley's, bn abt. 1754, & some of the FORD family's area. William mrd.Lucy Harper) sometime between 1796-1800, with Robert marrying Betsy Ford about 1803, then moving to Claib. Co., Tn. His brother William (1781-1790) also came to Claib.Co.,Tn. per the 1840 cns..
SOURCE - The 1830 KNOX CO., TN. cns. K364,) JOHN CHUMLEY (10001- 0001) & Wife, both 20-30 (bn. 1801-1810), son 0-5 (bn. 1826-1830).
ibid K378 WILLIAM CHUMLEY/"CHUMLAY" (00001-00001) & Wife , both 20-30 (bn.1801-1810). No children.
ibid K378 ROBERT CHUMLEY ( 0011101-1300001) & wife, both 40-50 (bn. 1781-1790), 3 boys & 3 girls. This is ROBERT & BETSY with the unmarried children, at that time.
ibid K322 ELIZABETH CHUMLEY (00001-000110001) , Eliz.bn. 1761-1770 (60-70), male & a female 20-29 (bn. 1801-1810 Man & wife?), girl 15-20 (bn. 1811-1815)
(NOTE - This age "bracket" seems to fit Elizabeth Dicken Chumley, but JUST WHAT ARE THE CIRCUMSTANCES, as Elizabeth would have been OVER 50 years old when this 15-20 year old girl was born?)
NOTE (1826) RBT. & BETSY CHUMLEY Claib. Co., Tn., Co. Court Records ( "Road work" ) show that Robert & Betsy & family were in CLAIB. . Co., Tn. in 1826. They were NOT listed in the 1820 Claib. Co. cns., but WERE listed in the 1840 CLAIB. Co. cns.. There appears to be an implied RELATIONSHIP with these & the other CHUMLEY families in the 1830 KNOX Co., Tn. cns. . Other Associated Surnames in the 1830 KNOX CO., TN. cns. were:
ibid (p362) BOYD, (p363) SHIPE, (p364 ) LEGG, (p364) HARPER, (p 365) STANLEY,
ibid (p378) Lists: Tho. W. MASTERSON
(NOTE -Was this the W. MASTERSON, later in WILSON CO, TN., where C. Ballard Chumley died at his home on his way back from the Mexican conflict about 1846? Did Chas. Ballard CHUMLEY know him in 1830?)
ibid (p379) JOHN FORD 0121001-201101, = John 40-50, (bn 1781-1790) , Wife 30-40 (bn. 1791-1800) Was JOHN FORD related to BETSY FORD CHUMLEY?

I think you might be asking about Lewis Melton Chumbley who was married to Helen MagDelaney "Lanie" Cowan.
This is not my direct line, but they did live in Az. and are buried in the Greenewood Cem. in Phoneix, and were the parents of six children.
Lewis Melton Chumbley was a son of Alexander Chumbley and Serelda Rainwater, they are buried in Texas.
