It seems that thewre was a John Chumbley who married Martha Lockett in Amelia Co. Va.
His will wrote in 1782 left everything to wife Martha. In the event of her death everything went to oldest son John. His other children were -Anne, Frances, Martha, Robert and William.
This son John married Elizebeth Dickens April 13, 1783. He later married Palethia Adams.
It seems that 4 of the children of John and Elizebeth Dickens were bound out to other people and went to Wilkes Co. Ga. They were reg. in 1805 Cherokee Land Lottery. This info comes from research from a Bill Chumbley posted in the Chumbley newsgroup by Barbara Meger. Maybe your Larkin is one of the children or decendants.

This summer, my daughter and I visited Amelia County, Virginia, home of John Chumbley, my ancestor. A local historian, along with a helpful librarian directed us to a plot of land, now owned by a large lumber company and used for tree farming, where John's homestead stood. It's just to the north of Jetersville in a place called Amelia Springs, site of the Army of Virginia's last encampment under the generalship of Robert E. Lee before his surrender to U.S. Grant. The home is gone, except for some remnants of the foundation, according to the local historian. The family cemetery, too, is gone, lost during the Confederate encampment and subsequent tree harvesting, although some of the Chumbleys may have been buried in a nearby common grave owned by a family called Anderson. Standing on the roadside looking into the dense pine wood at the general area of my forebear's home, I felt a special sense of connection to him and all the generations between him and me. I hope this backgr!
ound information helps in the continuing efforts to learn more of the Chumbleys' story.
Sincerely,
The Revd Kenneth L. Chumbley, sixth generation direct descendant
of John Chumbley of Amelia County.
