Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi all,
There are so many of us on the list, I cannot remember if we have seen any
of this particular line before, yet the e-mail address looks familiar. Can
anyone be of help to this person. Thanks.

Subject: [CHUMBLEY] William James Chumley
> I am looking for information on William James Chumley (Chumbley). He
married Malinda J. Housewright in TN about 1851. Around 1852 or 53 William,
Malinda and two children; William and Priscilla, moved to MO will Malinda's
family. They settled in Crawford County. MO. Does anyone have access to
the Hawkins County, TN census for 1850? There are Chumleys living next to
Housewrights but I have been unable to find anything but the index listing
for that county. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The following may be of interest to the
descendents of Louis Elihu Chumney and
Francis Jordan Chumney who are the sons
of Beverly Ransom Chumney and Sarah
Catherine Hill, who is the son of Willis V.
Chumney and Elizabeth {Elza} Hamblen.
They all lived in Henderson County Tn.
My grandfather, Louis Elihu Chumney B
12/30/1870 d.1958 married Emma E. Essary
his brother, Francis Jordan Chumney b.8/25/61
d. 1932, married Emma's sister Martha Tayton
Essary, daughters of George Washingon Essary and Elizabeth J Rhodes.
My geat grandfather, George Washington
Essary B. 5/9/1833 d7/13/1901, both in
Henderson County, Tn was a farmer. On
9/24/1862 he enrolled in the Union army at
Lexington, Tn for a period of 3 years. He was
mustered in on 9/28/1862 at Trenton, Tn and
assigned to H Company of the 2 Reg't West
Tennessee Cav., this unit was later changed
to the 7 Reg't Tennessee Cav. He was made
a Corporal and a scout.
During the fighting at Lexington on 12/18/1862,
he had his horse shot from under him and his
right index finger had the first two joints shot off.
He was injured again near McLenorsville when
his horse ran into a tree, hurting his right leg
and head. He was captured near Decatur,Tn.
on June 10th 1863 and was paroled at City
Point, Va on July 14, 1863.
On March 24, 1864 the entire regiment, except
for one unit on scout, was capured at Union City,Tn.. They were then
sent to the Southern
prision which is located near Americus, Ga.. Of
these men 66% or a total of 291, that is known
to have died and didn't make it home. While
in Andersonville, George Washington Essary,
lost the sight of his right eye. This was due to
his previous injury and disease. He was exchange on 4/5/1865, sent to
Jacksonville, Fla
then to Camp Case, Ohio where he was
discharged on June 26, 1865.
In 1998 the National Prisioner of War Museum
opened at Andersonville. This is the only park
in the National Park System to serve as a
memorial to all American prisoners of war
through the nation's history.
On a recent visit to the Museum, I was unable to
find any record of George Wahington Essary
ever being at Andersonville. After a lot of tries
I was able to get his service and pension file
from the National Archives and Records in
Washington, DC. With the help of Park Ranger
Joan P. Stibitz, these are all on file at the
Museum and can be viewed by the public as
follows:
George Washington Essary---Code 49266
The number 4 in the code means he lived
through Andersonville.
