Dear Cyndi, and all,
I know who this is Maude Chumley was one of the daughters of James
Franklin Chumley and Sarah B. Cline Chumley, who came to Collin Co.,
Texas. Aunt Maude is my grandmother's, Susanah (Suda) Chumley Prince
sister and the aunt of Ray Chumley husband of Arvie Chumley.
Hope this helps.

Barbara,
Thank you for the information!! Does anyone have access to this
book??? It might help unlock the puzzle to the Goodmans that were in
the same places at the same times!! I did call my library to ask if
they could find it through Interlibrary loan, but that could take a long
time (if they find it at all!)
Thank You,
Cyndi

Joyce,
Hi! It is GREAT to hear from you!! The info for Sampson seems
promising!! I found a couple listed as having 8 sons about the time
Sampson was born. They were in Claiborne County. When I get there I
will see if I can find out what happened to them and if there is
anything listing the other children! John Goodman is listed as being
born about 1775 and died about 1851 in Tazewell, Claiborne County, TN.
One daughter was Catherine Elizabeth Goodman born about 1810 in VA.
Some of this information came from:
Some info from "Families of Dallas, Lourens, Rogers Vol. 2" by Zella
Rogers
Dallas & Eureatha Rogers Lourens & John Keith Lourens 2/97
I know I have somewhere in my records where this book has been
discussed before, but I am not sure where! Does anyone know? I think
it was in reference to Chumbleys.
As far as sending queries to the list I think the following format
would be a good place to start:
Oldest relative known
Name
Spouse
Birthdate/Birthplace
Marriage Date/Marriage Place
Death Date/Death Place
Talk to you later!
Cyndi

Yes, this is where I first connected the Robert Chumly grave in Polk Co., MO
to the Tennessee Chumbleys. As I recall it has a pretty extensive listing of
Robert's descendants, but we/this List has been able to fill in and/or

Hi, All! I was going to wait to tell you all the big news, but
found I can not wait long enough!! :) Joan and I are making a trip to
TN in about 5 weeks!! We are going to make a trip like we did last year
to MO. We are going to drive, as close as possible, to the old trail
that wagons would have taken from Claiborne County, TN to Polk/Greene
Counties in MO. I have been working on finding leads, cleaning files,
etc. before the trip, but still have a while to go before I am ready! I
have some questions for you al that I will be sending along in the next
few weeks. I would also be very glad for any tips anyone wants to send
along!
The below letter is about a Church that I found out was right around
the corner from the Lyngar property! I had not tracked down the
Chumbley property yet, but will do that also! So imagine my surprise
when I received this tonight! He got my Chumbley connection wrong, but
that is alright! I can straighten it out! :)
I also am running down some leads on a possible father/family for
Sampson Goodman!! I have found a couple of possibilities that I am
working on finding more about before we go!
I have also been in touch with Barbara Cline about the
Lyngar/Lingars! She has been very helpful in uncovering the ones that
remained in Claiborne County!!
I will keep you all updated!

In the mid-1840's Willis V. Chumney moved his
family from Amelia County, Va to Henderson
County, Tn. His son and my great grandfather,
Beverly Ransom, born November 10, 1834 in
Amelia County VA. died March 30th 1915 in
Henderson County. Tn. moved to Tn. with him.
During the Civil War, Beverly Ransom enlisted
in the Union army at Lexington, Tn on 8/28/62.
He was assigned to the 2nd West Tennessee
Cavalry, the name of this regiment was later
changed to 7th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry.
On March 24,1864 the entire regiment, except
for one group on scout was captured at Union City, Tn.. They were then
sent to the Southern
prison at Andersonville which was located near
Americus, Ga. Of these men 66% or a total of
291, that is known to have died and didn't make
it home.
In 1998 the National Prisoner of War Museum
opened at Andesonville. This is the only park in
the National Park System to serve as a mem-
orial to ALL American prisoners of war through-
out the nation's history.
On a recent visit to the Museum, I was unable
to find any record of Beverly Ransom Chumney
ever being at Andersonville. I returned to my
home and started comparing the 7th Cavalry
roster with the Andersonville files. I found that
Beverly Ransom's name was badly mis-spelled.
I returned to the Museum and with the help of
Park Ranger Joan P. Stibitz, we got Beverly
Ransom Chumney's file corrected. I then obtained from the National
Archives and Records in Washington, DC a complete copy
of Beverly Ransom's service file and a complete
copy of his pension file. These are all on file
at the Museum and can be viewed by the public as follows:
Beverly R. Chumney----Code 49621
The number 4 in the code means he lived
through Andersonville and was exchanged
on 4/5/1865.
Debbie,
The following information was posted to this list last year, I think. In
case you missed it, it came from Bill Chumley of Florida who has been
researching the family for years. He gave me permission to share his work
with the list. I don't specifically see your Daniel, b. 1828, but the Wilson
Co. TN location is here.
Good luck!

B.C.Chumbley is listed in records as being the father of Richard Chumbley
who was the father of Daniel Chumbley who was born about 1828. Does anyone
have any info regarding this line of Chumbley's??
I believe they were mainly in Wilson county TN.
