Hi,
My wife and I always laugh at the Scooby-Doo episode that Chumley appears in.
His butler was Otto which was my Wifes maiden name, and she married me, a
Chumley. We always thought that the use of Chumley was a name twisting of the
old horror film star, Lon Chaney.

Most likely. I've seen a couple of these (for other family names). Someone
tracks down and prints all of the addresses and phone numbers from
directories in the country of a particular name. This may not be the case
for this one, but I'd check it out thoroughly before buying.
Barbara Meger
This is most likely a scam. I have received several references to a number
of my family surnames and my husbands and they are all from Bath, Ohio.

I did a quick search on my search eng last night and it looks like it is
or was in Maryland.
Ck, Military Forts and see what you come up with.
Glenda
For photocopies of records relating to service
in World War 1 or 11, write to:
National Personnel Records Center
{Military Records}, NARA,
9700 Page Boulevard
St. Louis, Mo 63132
When submitting any forms for Veterans
records, I always write across the top,
"Send All Military Records" A lot of infro
is useless because it is between goverment
departments but if I go this far I like to have
all relative information. Also, if you want
pension information, you have to send a
separate form.

Sorry, I haven't a clue.

Dear Hallmaker,
I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but if you will go to the
country courthouse or the county seat where he was discharged they will
have his military discharge papers. The county seat should have all
military discharge papers starting with WW1 and up. About the only type
of papers they will know have is American Civil War and American Rev.
I don't know where you live as to Lewis Melton Chumbley place of
discharge but you could possibly still go thru the county seat
courthouse where he was discharged.
Hope this might help.
Sincerely,
Glenda Bales Mounger
Write to Textual Reference Branch (NWDT 1)
National Archives and Records Adm.
7th and Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20408
Request some NATF Form 80 forms. Fill
one out with the information you have and
mail it back. They will look up the military
record for you and notify you what they find.
If they find a record, the cost is usually $10.00.
If they do not find a record , the cost is nothing.
This usually takes 60 to 90 days.
Thanks Bill !!
Now since I posed this question, I have another one. My father
(deceased) served in the Navy. Appx. 1943, 44, 45 - stateside. Any ideas
on getting information on this one? Or would I do it the same? Even though
I haven't the slightest idea where he served. (except for a little time in
Corpus Christi)
Thanks for the response ya' all ! (can you tell I live in the
south?)
Helen
Barbara,
Lewis served in the Spanish American War. At the time he enlisted out of
Kentucky. (If that makes a difference) Also, can you tell me what state
Fort Howard is in? The papers looked like MA but I couldn't be sure.
I am going to try the National Archive site anyway !
Thanks ! Helen
