Hello, everyone.
I am searching for information on Coloda CHUMLEY-CHUMBLEY, who was born in 1889 in Somerset, KY. Her father was John Perry CHUMLEY-CHUMBLEY, and her mother is suppesedly an A.J.RAINWATER. This information was passed to me by my mother-in-law, who is Coloda's great granddaughter. I would be grateful to anyone who could help me straighten out Coloda's ancestry.
Thank you!

Barbara,
There has been some misunderstanding about the Lingar's burial place in
TN. They are buried in Indian Creek Cemetery, which was named for Indian
Creek which runs nearby. This is NOT and Indian cemetery. I know this because
the land was originally owned by Lewis Lingar and has been in the family ever
since then.
Also, Mingo Hollow was a small community in Bell Co., Ky, near
Middlesboro. Apparently Jack Lingar had moved there for a time then moved
about 15 miles away to TN.
I know this is accurate information for I spoke with a family member who has
lived
there all her life and is in her 80's now. Just wanted everyone to have
accurate information.

Are you aware that Jack Lingar was part Indian? I had not known that. Do you
have any information on this? That certainly explains the black hair in the
family. I haven't been able to find where in NC John Lingar was from. Nobody
I contacted knew. I really am interested in the new information and would
like to know more. If you have heard of this and have any information I would
appreciate hearing from you.

Barbara,
I am replying to you through the Chumbley List as others may have input. I
think I have heard this Indian connection, too, but haven't seen any proof to
back it up. I believe that Arva Chumbley has in her notes that Jack Lingar
lived in Mingo Hollow. The Mingo were one of the Indian tribes in the area
at that time. You are so very right about the black hair thing!

Subject: chumbley line??
Hi
I was given your name and address by a man named Bob.
He said you were researching the CHUMBLEY line.
Here is what I have
Daniel and Eliza Chumbley
parents of Virginia Bell Chumbley who married Andrew Jackson Jennings in Wilson county TN
I have the census reports on the Andrew and Virginia from their marriage onward.
I have the 1880 wilson county report on the chumbleys and some court records.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Daniel Chumbley was born about 1828 in TN
his wife Eliza borrn about 1832
Virginia born about 1863
Lucy E. born about 1866
Nubern(m) born about 1869
all of these were born in TN
Hello Jeanne,
I am searching CHUMLEY in England.
I have a Frances Elizabeth CHUMLEY, Christened 10/2/1839
at Yalding.
In the 1851 Census she is Eliza, 9 yrs. daughter of Charles
CHUMLEY & Francis CHUMLEY, nee CHEESEMAN.
There is another Eliza CHUMLEY, b. 1865. I think this one is too
late for you.
I have CHUMLEY(S) in my family and have recorded all those that I
can find in England. I am from England now residing in Australia.
Hope this is helpful. Look forward to hearing from you sometime.
Best wishes, Sheila. sheila(a)netdocs.com
