Hi All!! I wanted to pass this information along to the list! I
pasted and copied all of our correspondence so you all could get an
idea what is going on. I will follow this with a few separate
messages giving the info I got in return. If you all do send for
some of the information on these or related people please post it to
the list so that we don't ask them to keep duplicating work and we
all still have copies of everything!!
Good Luck,
Cyndi

Barbara: here are the correct dates. My seasoned genealogist 1st
cousin, Harriet Zimbelman, passed this info to me and cousin Katie
Quiroz. Harriet had to verify her ancestry to become a DAR and daughter
of Colonial Dames of England, so she is quite thorough in her search and
proof m.o., but, of course, anyone can make a mistake. These are the
dates I've always had for the above. I wonder where the others came
from?
Best regards,
Joan Archibald (grgrandaughter of Newton Jasper Goodman and
Rhoda Ann Ward.
P.s. I haven't personally looked for census records on either, and the
info on Harvey actually came through Jo Curry, rather than Harriet.

Hi List,
I am looking for information on William K. CHUMLEY b. TN about 1816. He was
married to Ruth (?) and had at least 8 children that were born in TN. They
then moved to Illinois about 1855 or so. On the 1860 census the youngest,
age 3, was born there in IL. Here is a list of their children: Elizabeth,
Pruelia, William Grant, Daniel Richard, Henrietta A., Joshua, James M., Lucy
C., Elisha A.
Would appreciate any information.
Thank you,
Cynthia Chumley
Barbara,
This is the John Chumbley & Robert Chumbley combination I was referring to
late one night a couple of months or so ago. I apparently did not make my
message clear, and it was interpreted as the John & Martha Chumbley & son
Robert. I never sat down to clarify my info to you. I had too much going on
at the time. This has been a major question for me for years. I don't
recall any correspondence over the years referring to a will or deed
records that may have shown relationships for this John (Elizabeth Dickens
) Chumbley. I Great, now we are all on the same "wave length." In the late
1980s I corresponded with a lady named Beverly Herber Tubbs in Morrison ,
OK. This is the parentage she showed for Robert Chumbley who married Betsy
Ford. As I recall there was no documentation, I will definitely look up her
old letters.
I couldn't find a listing for an E-mail address for her, but she is still
living in Morrison, OK.
Her address is: Beverly Herber Tubbs
P.O Box 15
Morrison, OK 73061
We definitely need to contact her. Talk to you later.

You have been a busy group and I spent some time trying to catch up
today, leaving me with questions and comments.
Yes, I am embarrassed to say I did have the two children of John F.
Goodman from his second marriage--just hadn't looked at it for a long
time and forgot about it.
I have Samuel Chandler Chumley married to Mary Eliza, but I have
only 4 children for them--who else is there?
I have 7 children for Harve and Madeline: Phillip, Sarah, Ulysses,
Arthur, Oscar, Gustavus, Iadina--they are listed so in the 1880
census.
I had Albert instead of Talmadge as the third son of Thomas Kelly,
but am convinced I was incorrect and have changed it. Albert was
either another "wrong Goodman" mistake, or is it possible, since that
was the name of her 2nd husband he was just misplaced?
I will try to remember to get out a folder I have labelled "wrong
Goodmans" if that will help with any confusion.
I guess I have a contradiction in my own records. I have Mary
Unknown dying in 1827 (I really understood that she passed away 3
years after her husband. But I have seen the census report showing
her as head of house in 1830. How did this happen?
I have different names of children of Edward and America--I have
Mabel, Homer, Cora, Arley, Emma, Helmuth, Othar, while Sharon has
Addie, Charles, Albert, Edith and Mabel. What happened?
I have different children for Elizabeth who married a Slatten, but
finally decided I have mixed up the two Elizabeths who married
Slattens--one the niece of the other. Will have to straighten that
out.
I appreciate the high standard of accuracy in this group.

Hello Barbara,
I am a rather slow CHUMBLEY reseacher but am interested in the fact of
a surname for Martha who married John CHUMBLEY.
Bill Chumbley had provided me with research but never identified
Martha as being a LOCKET. When and where can I find this data?

Grace's recent message sent me scurrying through my notes to see where she
fits. It would appear that her James Chumbley m. Lucretia Pully would be
brother to 'our' Robert, b. 1786. Does anyone have the documentation that
proves that Robert was a son of John Chum(b)ley m. Elizabeth Dickens? I've
searched through a number of Amelia Co. VA records and can verify that the
John who married Elizabeth was a son of the John who married Martha Locket,
but that third generation link remains illusive.
To your files, cousins!
Barbara
Hi Joan,
1. Edythe Goodman Wise was the daughter of Oliver S. Goodman & Cora
Goodman (1st cousins married each other), and the mother of Juanita Wise
Martin.
2. From all the notes that Juanita has sent to me over the years, it
appears that the Goodman's were big on "nicknames." My mother & Edythe were
1st cousins and while I was growing up my mother also used the same
nicknames. Juanita notes always refer to Edwin M. Goodman as "Daddy
Goodman," but I never heard my mother refer to his as that. I remember my
mom mentioning "Newt," "Nate," I don't remember "Doc" (you would think that
would be used for Thomas Kelly Goodman , since he was a doctor). When she
mentioned "Harve," she was referring to James Harve Lingar. I'll go back
thru Juanita's letters, but I do remember Edythe referring to James Harve
Lingar as "Harve." This may have been to distinguished between the 2
Harves.
Edythe apparently had been interested in the family history for many
years, and many notes go back to conversations with America & Edythe's
mother Cora, and other Chumbley, Goodman, Lingar cousins over the decades.
Aunt Arlie & Aunt Mabel apparantely were not too helpful, as they rarely
remembered any of the stories.
I sure wish I could get my hands on Aunt Mabel's diaries, if they still
exist. I don't know who would have them (Jean, Mabel's dau. or Terry,
Mabel's grand dau). Aunt Mabel died in the early 1960s & Jean got rid of
everything. She gave me lots of Aunt Mabel's old linen...crocheted doilies,
a couple of machine patchwork quilts and some other things. Aunt Mabel used
to crochet dish drainers out of cotton rug yarn. She would put them on her
tile counters when doing dishes to let them drain. I was always impressed
by these hand made drainers, and Jean included a couple in the things that
she gave me. I learned to crochet in the 1960s and figured out how she made
them. I started making them for family as gifts (I don't think I could
figure it out now as it's been over 8 years since I crocheted). Anyway, I
know the diaries would have been full of family stories, good & bad. I
remember her writing in her diary every day. Another thing that I remember
of Aunt Mabel, is that she would make her own lye soap. She would save all
the bacon grease. This was in the late 1940s & early 1950s. She loved to
play cards, especially bridge and a version of double solitare that she
taught everyone in the family. She taught my mom and me, and to this day I
am still playing this game of solitare, 50 years later. I have since taught
it to one of my brother's sons.
So much for my rambling on. You guys have a way of stirring up some old
memories, things I haven't thought of in years. I'll start pulling
Juanita's letters, and little by little I'll send the info. In fact, I
really want to find the letter that refers to America being taken to a
cemetery (full of Sharps) somewhere in AR and she said that all the Sharps
were her relatives. To this day, no one knows where this cemetery is
located, but Juanita & I believe it is in either Benton or Washington
Counties. Talk to you later.
