Dear Mark
Do you have the date and place of birth of Victor and Ted Chubb? Or do you
have the name of their parents and grandparents?
My Chubb ancestors are from Fordingbridge, Hampshire, England. This is the
village where the founders of Chubb Locks were born. My line is not linked to
the Chubb Lock family so I don't have any information about their descendants
but I think there is a Chubb archivist who could help you. Try a web search
for 'history of Chubb Locks'. I do have more information about Charles Chubb -
father of Charles and Jeremiah.
Charles Chubb and his younger brother Jeremiah, were born to Charles Chubb a
tick weaver in Fordingbridge in Hampshire; Charles was born in 1779 (from
another source 1772). and Jeremiah in 1790. Having been apprenticed as a
blacksmith, Charles opened a business in Winchester before moving with his brother to
Portsea, in the dockland area of modern Portsmouth, in 1804. Charles occupied a
house in Daniel Street where they carried on business as ships' chandlers.
As part of his work as an ironmonger Jeremiah refined the Barron lock (a
tumbler lock patented in 1788) and this he patented in 1818 and with this he won a
reward offered by the Government for a lock which could not be opened by any
but its own key. After the invention of the Chubb detector lock the manufacturer
of locks became their main business.

We are looking for any information concerning ancestry of Victor Chubb. He would have been the son of one of the founders of Chubb & Son (the lock company) or perhaps the grandson of the founder.
He had a twin brother named Ted.
Although Ted stayed in England, Victor immigrated to Canada and lived in Montreal. Died 1958 or 1959 in Montreal. He had 1 daughter, Evelyn and 2 sons, Eric and Leo.
Thanks to anyone who can provide information.
Marc
