I'm still trying to figure out who the parents of Joel CHUBB, b. 1808 in
New York, were. My parents just celebrated their 50th anniversary and a
cousin of my dad's at the party said our CHUBBs were Pennsylvania Dutch.
I know that means they were German (Deutsch) rather then Dutch, but I
also knew that the Germans in New York were sometimes called
Pennsylvania Dutch as well as those in Pennsylvania. My cousin says she
sure that she remembers her mom telling her the Chubbs were from
Pennsylvania.
Now to make my long story even longer, I'm pretty sure my Joel's
grandfather was Alexander CHUBB of Ontario Co., New York. (No hard proof
but a lot of little clues like similar first names and Alexander is only
one of two Chubb's in New York with a male less then five years old in
1810.) I'm guessing Joel was the son of Alexander's son, Harvey, as Joel
had a son named James Harvey CHUBB (James was the name of Joel's
father-in-law.) I've traced Alexander CHUBB back to Stephen CHUBB and
Rebecca NASH of New Haven, CT. However, I can't seem to figure out where
Stephen CHUBB came from. He doesn't seem to be related to any of the
other CHUBBs in Connecticut (at least no one is claiming him).
Does anyone have a Stephen CHUBB born about 1720 from Pennsylvania? Or
even an older Stephen or an Alexander from Pennsylvania? Stephen married
Rebecca NASH. Their other children were Rebecca (named for mother),
Stephen (named for father), Alexander (not a Nash name as far as I can
determine), Ruth (not a Nash name) and Deidamia (not a Nash name).

HUNTING: CHUBB in NY, OH, IL, KS, OK, CA
My gg grandmother Hannah (Glassop) CHUBB (b. 1831) passed away in June 1900
at 45 Cephas Street, MEOT, London. On the 1881 census , she was living as
a widow at "#7 Twemlow Terrace". Hannah was the widow of John CHUBB (d.
1879, Whitechapel). The family apparently operated a shop (general dealer)
on Cephas Street or Twemlow. There were at least 8 children all born in
Stepney between 1851 and 1870.
Any information that anyone can provide about the family would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you.
I am not sure if Dinton Wiltshire is in Wales or not but if it is there may
be a connection since the Chubb family came from Wales then to Canada then to
US (I think Michigan). But would appreciate it to be checked out. Thank you
Jim & Sharon Chubb
I have a copy of above book compiled by Jean Chubb of Alberta Canada. The book is very comprehensive with photos and documentation. I can try to do lookups for anyone, but will refer you directly to Jean if we find a connection.
Our Chubbs came from Dinton Wiltshire..The chart begins in 1736 and covers Canadian provinces and the United States. Please email me directly for your inquiries.
