If you are looking for Chubbs in MA or New England/NY, the following may be
useful information:
The Great Migration Begins, Vol 1, by Robert C. Anderson, NEHGS, Boston,
1995, page 355-357. Information about Thomas Chubb, who migrated about 1630
to Massachusetts. It lists where he was born, lived, and died. He married
Avis (or Annis) and had six children- Deliverance, a 2nd daughter (?),
Thomas, John, Susanna, and William.
Worcester County- There are several Chubb families here in 1790 census.
There are also probate records from several others, to include the earliest
(1739), a Ebenezer Chubb who's father John died and was given a guardian
named Stephen Fay There are also land records indicating a John and Samuel
Chubb bought and sold land in the mid to late eighteenth century.

Working on the genealogy of the Loren/Lorin Chubb family. Loren was born December 26, 1785, Middleton TWP, Rutland, VT. His fathers name was listed as Joseph, I believe his mother could have been Mary Freeman. He married a Clarissa ? who was born in Vermont in 1796, she died in Stockholm, NY 2/11/1873. Clarissa and Loren Chubb lived in Hopkinton and Stockholm, NY. Their daughter, Fanny born in NY, married Ira B. Beach born in Vermont. Need Clarissa's last name and pedigree for Joseph Chubb, father of Loren. Willing to share genealogy of the Ira B. Beach/Fanny Chubb family.
Thank you,

My sister, (elizabeth(a)kohlhoff.com) has researched the Chubb family from
Cornwall (St Germans, Morval, Quethiock etc) back to the early 1600s.
Below is a quick picture of some of that family but Elizabeth Kohlhoff
has very much greater detail including information on both descendants
and ancestors along other lines. I have forwarded Patricia's note onto
her.
James Chubb (1749/50 - 1826), uncle of the Elizabeth (daughter of
Richard C. and Mary Littleton) in Patricia's posting was an exciseman,
diarist and Methodist lay preacher. His is the branch that we are
descended from.
Richard C. (Elizabeth's father) and James were sons of Robert C. and
Anne Pine (m. 1735). This Robert was the son of John C. and Margaret
Carkeet (m. 1691).
Following the Chubb line back the next three generations it appears
there were 3 Thomas Chubbs. John's father (?) m. Agnes Hancock 1649, his
grandfather m. Elizabeth Burt in 1625 and his g.grandfather m. Joane
Francis who died a widow in 1638 aged 70.
Robert Chubb and Ann Pine had a large family. Ann (m. Nicholas
Truscott), John, Thomas (who had 7 sons including 2 sets of twins and
was a farmer in Devon), Elizabeth (m. John Hodge), Robert, Matthew (1
surviving son a Lieutenant in Navy), Richard (a butcher and farmer),
James, Margaret (m. William Langdon) and Mary (m. Mildon).
Richard C. and Mary Littleton's family was Elizabeth (m. Brickwood as
per Patricia's note), Ann (m. Castle), Robert, Peggy (m. John Hodge),
John (1 surviving son John, grandsons Nicholas and William), Richard,
Hannah, Mary (m. J Bruce), Rebecca and Thomas (m. Ann Richards, 5 sons
incl Charles and Thomas. This family included solicitors and judges in
UK and Queensland).
James, the diarist, married Elizabeth Wensley in Bristol. Their children
included William and Edward who both went to Barbados, Elizabeth (m.
William Stephens), Mary Ann (m. John Edwards), Henry (in Alabama in
1820), Mercy (m.Turpin and was in South Africa in 1820), Anna (m. Edward
Moon), Thomas, Lawrence Wensley (m. Anna Maria Grape) and Emma (m.
Edward Abbot). It appears that Edward had sons John and James both
married in Barbados. Lawrence Wensley C.'s son of the same name went to
Australia and m. Esther Lydia Collins. Their eldest son was also
Lawrence Wensley. The other children of LW(II)C. and Esther were Esther,
Charles, Archibald, Emily and Thomas. (Emily is our link with the Chubb
family.)
I hope this info may interest someone.
Cheers
Doug
I just got my own posting. I think Joel's father was Harvey, son of
Alexander rather then Alexander Jr. (Joel had no children named
Alexander.) My guess is that Harvey and his wife and children were
living with his father, Alexander at the time of the 1810 census. I feel
Harvey, rather then Alexander Jr. was the father, simply because Joel's
son was James (after his maternal grandfather) Harvey (after Joel's
father?). James Harvey CHUBB had a son named Joel Anson, named for Joel
Anson's grandfathers (Anson being the name of James Harvey's
father-in-law.) Anyway, I'm trying to prove or disprove that Harvey or
Alexander was the father of Joel CHUBB who married Sarah Ann DYER, 18
November 1832 in Geouga County, Ohio.
I am trying to find the parents of Joel CHUBB, born 1808 someplace in
New York. I have checked census records for 1810 and found two
possibilities: Alexander CHUBB in Ontario County and Ira in Columbia
County. I have information from the DAR that says Ira was the son of
Gideon also from Columbia. Alexander's family sounds most promising to
me as the senior Alexander (he had a son named Alexander as well) had a
daughter named Claret, which was also the name of one of Joel's
daughters. There is also a son named Harvey. Joel had a son named James
Harvey! Joel married Sarah DYER, whose father was James DYER. I think
that Joel was the son of Alexander Jr., but I have no proof, other then
the name correction.

HUNTING: CHUBB in New York, Ohio, Illinois, Kansas and Oklahoma.
Dear Dan,
Thank you for taking the trouble to respond to my message. It is interesting to know that there are Chubb's in Massachusetts around 1770.
Lets hear from the other CHUBB members. What you might thing is not important, could be a gold mine for someone else.
Many Thanks

Being new to this list I noticed another subscriber, Patricia Pitt has also recently sent in a message for assistance.
Are there any other fellow CHUBB family members? Some suggestions to our requests would help.

Dear Subscribers
I am trying to find where Mary Foster CHUBB born 1881 England came from in England. She came out to South Africa with James Samuel Cairns PITT, who both died in South Africa. They had four children and my aim is to try and locate the birth certificate of their second child who was born on the 4 May 1905 - possibly Bristol, His birth place has even been stated as Ireland, so I am trying to locate the birth place of Mary Foster CHUBB as a marriage normally takes pl;ace in the brides place of birth. Does anyone have a CHUBB married to a FOSTER as I feel this is how she obtained her name ? A marriage certificate between James Samuel Cairns PITT and Mary Foster CHUBB can not be found yet either.
Hope you can assist me to put the pieces together.
Many Thanks

I've been trying to find the parents of my Joel CHUBB, born 1808 in New
York, for about 10 years now. In the 1810 US Census there are two (that
I've found) CHUBBs with males under the age of ten. (Joel would have
been 2 years old that year.) One was Alexander CHUBB in Ontario Co. page
139 and the other was Ira CHUB, in Columbia Co., page 118. A "cousin"
sent me the following information on Alexander and Ira:
Alexander CHUBB, b. 1 June 1761; d. 1812 Pittsford, NY; lived in
Litchfield, CT in 1790; Father was Stephen, b. abt 1720, d. 1790; mother
was Rebecca (maiden name unknown). Alexander had the following children
(don't know his wife's name)
1. Stepehn b. 1786
2. Claret, b. 1788
3. Alexander, b. 20 June 1790
4. Harvey, m. Caroline
5. Franklin m. Maria Hector Welsh
6. Cynthia, b. 1793 m. John COLLINS
7. Amanda b. 1799 m. (1) James BETON; 2. Stewart PORTER
On Ira, I have information on his father and family:
Gideon CHUBB b. 1760, NY; d. Hillsdale, Columbia co., NY 1828
CHILDREN: 1. Ira, b. 1784
2 Stepehn
3. Betsey m. Elijah BAKER
4. Irana m. Thomas LOOMIS
5. Lydia m. Lyman OLDS
6. Premelia m. Stephen SWAYER
7. Philo b. 1792
My money is on Alexander, as Joel CHUBB had a daughter named Claret
(Alexander had a daughter with that name) and a son name James Harvey
(Alexander had a son named Harvey).
Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.
