Has anyone connected to this William Chronister? He probably came in through the port of NY, but passenger lists from 1847 to 1897 for NY City are missing. They were thrown out, believe it or not! He may have come in via the Canadian border. Does anyone have immigration information on this family?
1860 census - Indiana, Porter County, Porter Twp., p. 124, shows William Cronister age 75, a farmer, born in Ireland; Mary age 36 born Ireland; John age 13 born Ireland; and Francis (female) age 6 born in NY.
Thanks for any information.

There are two chronister soldiers that I am trying to place in a family structure:
1. John Chronister, Company B, Preston's Battalion, Missouri Confederate Cavalry. He enlisted 1 October 1862 at Bloomfield.
2. John Chronister, Company C, 4th Missouri Confederate Cavalry. No enlistment date or place was given, but the history of this regiment shows that it was assembled during December of 1861, and "some of the men" were from St. Louis and Barton Counties.
I wonder if anyone is a descendant of either of these men, or been able to place them in a known family?

Jennifer, I suggest that you post the name and dates of the oldest
Chronister in your line which you can personally verify--maybe someone
on the list is familiar with your line. (Though for privacy purposes,
you should never give the names and dates of your parents or your
grandparents if they are still living)
I have Chronisters in York and Adams. I have done a complete
transcription of the Lower Bermudian Cemetery, where the immigrant
Chronister and many of his descendants are buried, and I have
transcribed just the Chronister names from some other cemeteries. My
research into their marriages and family attachments down the line is
ongoing, through court records, land records, federal government
records, and other original sources. I'd be happy to see if I have
anything on your people.

Hi,
I'm just beginning to investigate my family's Chronister line (out of York
County, PA) for my mother, whose maiden name is Chronister. I read a few
messages in the archive of this listserv and noticed references to a book on
the Chronister family--can anyone give me info on this?
Thanks!
