How does this in any way answer the question that I asked?
I have looked at the actual confederate compiled service records at the National Archives (widely available on microfilm), and there is a John Chronister in each of the two Missouri regiments that I named. I am interested in placing each of them in a family structure.
You say that there is only one soldier in the Missouri Confederate Cavalry. Which regiment was he in, and how old was that soldier at enlistment?
I am not interested in quotes from books that were hastily put together from family stories and guesses based on census, and then sold to the gullible. I am interested in actual research--work that somebody might have done in actual records using original documents.

According to Gary A Chronisters book on the Chronister Family there was a Jacob Chronister born 1784 died 1844.
the eldest son of Johann Conrad and Catharina (Brehm) Chronister was born in Warrington Township, York County Pennsylvania. He grew up in Tyrone Township of York (later Adams) County but by 1810 was living in Newton Township of Cumberland County. About 1807 he was married to Elizabeth who was also born in 1784. Children: Cyrus, born 1808, Daughter born 1810 apparantly died 1815, Henry G. born 1818, John Dorsey born 1820 apparantly died 1825
and another daughter born in 1825 and died in 1830.
In 1813 Jacob and the family moved from Cumberland County to Halfmoon Township of Centre County, PA. They built a log cabin and farmed until his death in 1844 at the age of 60. His wife Elizabeth died 10 years later in 1854.
Hope this is helpful!
