I have information on the Chronisters dating back to the 1500s. I would love more information on the Chronisters in Virginia. My grandmother was Nannie Chronister who was married to John Harper Tuck. They are both buried at Nelson Baptist Church. I'll be glad to share my information but must warn that the information is not substantiated.
Peggy, William M. Chronister and wife Margaret Napier received land
from her mother in 1880. I received a file about the Napier's with
that information in it. I am trying to figure out how to send it to
you. It came from a family history about Dr. Patrick Napier of
Virginia, written by Vava Virginia Knepp in 1988 in California, prinited
by Vaugh Printing, Santa Monica , California. The man who sent the
article to me said that the book was in several large libraries in the
United States. since you live close to great libraries, you might be
able to find it. I think this may have something to do with them
moving to Conway county, the land from the mother.

William M. Chronister moved from Pope Co. AR, to Conway Co. AR sometime between 1870 and 1879. There is a federal land claim for him in Conway Co. In his pre-emption proof affidavit for that land claim, he stated that he first settled on the tract on 20 October 1879. He said he already owned a 20 acre parcel of land adjacent to the one he was applying for. That 20-acre parcel was not purchased by him from the federal government, as far as I can tell, which means it must've been a private sale.
Has anyone ever looked at the grantor/grantee indexes in Conway and Pope Counties or looked at deed records to see what other land purchases or sales have William M.'s name on them? I don't want to duplicate any good effort that has already been made, but I would like to know who he bought his land from, who he sold it to, and when the transactions took place, both in Conway and in Pope.
Thanks!
