Mary Lou,
We may have talked before about William Chronister. I know I have stumbled
on a few. If you give me the particulars on your William--spouse, dates,
children, anything else that might help, I'll see what I have.
Ancestry does not have all newspapers from everywhere, obviously, but they
are adding new databases every day, a lot of them newspapers. You can look
at their databases to see what they have, without a subscription. You just
can't search any of them unless you subscribe. Try this:
Go to: www.ancestry.com The main screen has a little box near the bottom on
the right side that says "what's new". In that box is a line that says:
"List recent or all databases". Click on "all databases" and you can get a
list of them, including the newspapers, in alphabetical order. You can then
click on any database to get a description of that database. You'll see a
lot of Gettysburg newspapers on that list.

Hello Peggy, I have been reading the Chronister Digest with much
interest. When I read the letter that everyone is so excited about I
thought wow, she really knows where to look for information! I am
interested in the Chronister line through my husband's family. I am
stuck on his grandfather William Chronister at the present time, but
figure it will come someday. However I wanted to ask about the
newspapers on Ancestry. Are newspapers from all over the country
included? Thanks for the great information about them.

Peggy,
Thanks so very much for posting this. This is my direct line - I am descended from Sally Spahr who married Philip Deardorff - and this give me tons of information I didn't have. I now have lots more to go on to dig into this family. If anyone else is interested in this family, please contact me.

Alva Wilson Carter married Jesse Myers. Jesse was the sister to my Grandmother Mable Myers. Anyway David L. Myers married Francillia L. Bowser who was my GGrandmother. She died at age 30 in 1856 in Decatur, IN.
My cousin found a marriage license for Alva Wilson Carter and Jesse Myers, BUT it lists David Myers as the father and someone named Alice Chronister as the mother.. So I am assuming that after my GGrandmother died David must have remarried. So I thought I would try to find out more about Alice Chronister.
David L. Myers was b Sept 1844 and it shows that Alice was born in Adams County IN, so much for that. And I just now noticed your ancesters are from Adams County PA. So unfortunately I have made a mistake. Jesse Elizabeth Myers was born 11/1/1891.
Sorry to have troubled you. But in your research if you happen to find someone named Alice Chronister and think there may be a connection please feel free to let me know.

Carol, I will try to help you, but I really need you to clarify the relationships between these people a little better, to make sure I understand. Also, please give some dates or a reasonable date range, since Chronister and Myers are such commonly occurring names in Adams County, PA (there will be many people with these same names). I'd be delighted to try to help you if I can.

I noticed with interest that your Chronisters are from Adams County as were mine. I am searching for an Alice Chronister. I was searching for information on Jesse Myers and I found her marriage license to an Alva Wilson. Anyway it lists David Myers and he was my GGGrandfather and it also lists Alice Chronister as my Aunt Jesse's mother. I don't suppose you have heard of her?

I am searching on any information on Alice Chronister. David Myers is my GGGrandfather and he was married at some point to an Alice Chronister. I have no further information. I found a marriage license for my Aunt Jesse and it gives David as the father and Alice Chronister as the mother. My Aunt married Alva Wilson Carter and this was their marriage license.
