I didn't find your email address to send to you privately. I would love to have a copy of that picture!!
Your line doesn't look familiar to me but I have a great deal
of info on the
Chronister surname and we have a list that you may
subscribe to if you are
interested? There are only about 2 emails a week so there
won't be a lot of mail in
your inbox, but I'm sure everyone on the list would be
interested in hearing from you
and learning about your line. With a name such as
Chronister, then we know we are
linked somehow or another! It's just getting everyone into
the same place and all
working to find the connection. You are more than
welcome to join.

As stated previously, the William B. Chronister who was the Civil War soldier is definitely buried in the Hampton Union Cemetery. There is no wife's grave marker beside him. I recently found that his wife, Catharine, is buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. This information is from the DAR Library in Washington, D.C. in a book index for obituaries in York Newspapers 1901-1909: "Chronister, Catharine, widow of William B., of York, PA. Obituary 15 Nov 1906 aged 80 years, 1 month, 25 days. Interment in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, PA--the Gazette 16 Nov 1906."
Clear DayIs anyone on this list researching the William Chronister from Richland County, Ohio, born about 1844? According to "the book", this William would be the half-brother of my ancestor, Elza Chronister. I've found this William on some census reports, and have sent for his Civil War pension record, but sure would like to hear from anyone who has information to share.

Debra got a little confused, which is easy to do when you try to reconcile the truth with what's printed in that book. Debra is used to doing real research, and that book is quite a puzzle for anyone who has looked at original documents!
It's funny that the book says that William Chronister's burial place is not known! William B. Chronister, the soldier from the I 209th PA Volunteers, is definitely buried at the Hampton Union Cemetery, and his grave is clearly marked with his name and unit quite readable. He sits alone, there is no wife's stone next to him. It's possible that the stone is just missing. His son, David, who also served in the I 209th PA Volunteers, is bured at the Lower Bermudian Cemetery with his wife Elizabeth, and one of their daughters. His regiment is clearly marked on his stone, too.
"The book" credits the wrong David as being the soldier. It says that the David who was the husband of Margaret was the soldier in the I 209th. He was NOT.
As far as "Rebecca" Chronister is concerned, I don't know who she is, or whose wife she could be, but there are 4 different Rebecca Chronisters buried at the Hampton Union Cemetery. Three of them have "wife of..." on their stones, and the name is not "William" for any of them. The fourth Rebecca died at the age of 25, so this cannot be the wife of William the soldier, either. Maybe someone else knows about this "Rebecca". This is not my direct line, so I don't have a lot of information.
There is another "William Chronister" buried at the Lower Bermudian Cemetery. His stone says he died 2 Feb 1854, aged 52 years, 11 months, 1 day. There is no wife's stone next to it. I can't say with certainty where he fits in.
I can say that I have been to these cemeteries myself, and looked at pension files myself, so this is not second-hand information I'm giving out.
>From what I understand, there are a lot of cemetery transcriptions that were done many years ago and are in the Adams County Historical Society. Those would probably be a good source, since many of the older headstones are missing or illegible at this point. I have not made a trip there yet, but it's on my list.

Louise, I apologize for giving you some misleading information. After my post and after reading Peggy Reeves reply, I re-read the scant information on this Susannah Chronister and her birth family. The sentence following Rebecca's burial place says that William's grave/marker was not found. I interpreted this to mean he was buried in the same cemetery as Rebecca. Peggy is quite familiar with these cemeteries and this family line. I would definitely go with her information.
"The Book" does list a sibling named "Christian" for Susanna, d/o of William and Rebecca, no gender given.

To further clarify the confusion, let's make sure we're talking about the RIGHT William Chronister. That Chronister book that everyone is looking at has several William Chronisters listed. I'm not sure that the information is correct on ANY of them! I have a transcription of Chronister grave stones at the Hampton Union Cemetery (formerly the Hampton Lutheran and Reformed cemetery), and also the Lower Bermudian Cemetery. William B. Chronister and his son, David, both have their military unit on their grave markers--and the Chronister book doesn't even get that part correct. In the book, the wrong David Chronister is given credit as being the soldier. If anyone has an interest in any of these people, contact me privately and I'll see if I can help.

I know of several Susanna Chronisters. I have one possibility that might be yours, but you would have to research it more. There is a Susannah Chronister b. 1 Jul 1807 who was the daughter of David Chronister and Elizabeth Bower. I don't know who this Susannah might have married, or if she married at all. Also, the Susannah I'm looking at did not have a sister named Christina, that I am aware of. If you have any more information, you can e-mail me privately and I would be glad to help. I think you're on the right track, but there is a lot of confusing and incorrect information out there thanks to "the book".
