Hello Amy,
Can't tell you how much we appreciated all the information you gave us in your reply. Sounds like the search is on! Uncle Bill gave us a picture from the 2nd World War with Norman, Harry, and Albert that I will try to scan, and add in the pictures. Albert and his wife, Ida, are buried at the VA Cemetary in Riverside, Ca. Will also take a photo the next time we are there. I took a really good picture of Uncle Bill and my husband, Albert, on my cell phone when we were in Three Rivers a month ago. Will try and get you as much as possible.
You are so fortunate to be that close to the Philadelphia Historical Museum. I have never been to Philadelphia, but of course, Al has. Because he had asthma when he was younger, they moved to Ca. in 1947, and his brother, Raymond, was born in Whittier, Ca. in 1948. Al said he thought they moved to the Palm Springs area in 1949 where he started school in first grade. Al (my husband) was also a Marine during Viet Nam War.
You have inspired me to research further. My cell number is (760)898-0492, so if you want to call me, I can text the picture to you.
Thanks again, and if we ever get to Philadelphia, we will get in touch. Also, if you are ever out this way, Joshua Tree National Park is just 10 miles from our house.
Gayle

Hi Gayle,
Sorry for my late response. I live in Mount Laurel, NJ. Not far at all from where they all grew up. It seems this line of the family hasn't strayed far from it roots. I'm probably no more than 10 miles from the Kennsington and Fishtown area the family is from. I think it's quite strange that the Christy family goes back so far in the Philadelphia area and no one seemed to have any idea.
I've been trying to track down some of the cemetery info. One relative was burried in a cemetary that's now defunct. According to the info published, family members were moved to 3 different cemeteries, but I could find no record in any. I remember some stories a few years back about some cemeteries that ran out of space or time or money and deposited bones or moved remains into a heap. I'm hoping it's not one of those situations.
I also came across some references to a Kenneth Milano who's written a lot about the Kennsington/Fishtown area. I've found a copy of Hidden History of Kennsington and Fishtown - from an Ebay seller in England of all places - and hope that may provide more interesting information. It's the Maggie/Margaret/Margaretta that has me wondering if it's really all the same person. If you've seen any other posting from Melanie Christy she has the family going back to a James who fought in the Revolution born on ship from Ireland to American. Kind of ironic for me. I am an admitted anglophile - have been my whole life - even went to London on my honeymoon. I started doing research on the Christy line hoping to prove English ancestry so I could join the DBE (Daughters of the British Empire). How bizzarre would it be to actually have a relative who fought against the British. My husband has been unmerciful in his teasing - first that my family may have fought the British and sec!
ond that I'm as Irish than he is.
I've also joined a cemetery project and will be trying to fulfill some requests for photos of tombstones in my local area. My 10 year old son thinks it's sooo cool and wants to come with and help out. He's found this search pretty interesting -although when he's annoyed with me he refers to me as "My Irish Mother." We drove past the Woodcrest Country Club where George W Jr. worked and I've also shown him some pictures (then and now) of the Ajax Metal works where he also worked. I've always loved history and glad he's interested too.
I'd love to be able to find the documentation to support a relative who fought in the Revolution. My father was a Marine and I would love to be able to surpirse and present him with a membership to the Sons of the American Revolution.
And so my search continues.....
I'm lucky to live here - the Philadelphia Historical Society is no more than a half hour from home and hope that will prove a good resource. I'm planning on taking a couple of days this summer to see what I can find. If you like I'll keep you updated on my search.
You know, I've heard all the Christy's looked alike. I know that's true for my grandfather (Raymond) and Uncle Jock (Norman). Apparently for myself as well. It seems when I was born my grandmother declared, "She's a Christy!" My mom has agreed to let me search the old pictures and I'd like to post a photo of my grandfather. Let me know you think.
Kind Regards,
Amy
