Read all the news from the Edmund Chandler Family Association newsletter. This month we featured Howard Chandler Christy, one of the most famous artist/illustrators of the last century, whose name may not be familiar today, but his art works still are.
Even if you do not descend from Edmund Chandler of Duxbury, Mass, you will find helpful hints on breaking down brick walls, DNA news and more.
Go to www.edmundchandler.com and click on Edmund's Community Courier at the top.

Yes, maiden name. (forgot she grew up as Barker, that was her dad's name) Good catch. Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks for the link to the death certificate. I think 'nee' means that was the maiden name. Her maiden name was Barker. Evidently she did not marry.

I've reached the same conclusion after some time to view the same census and the Barker connection.

There is very little written in the Bible, most of which I listed on my previous posts. I will list all the information for you in this post:
Under marriages...
James Christy & Mary Hill Married April 15th 1842.
Under births...
Geo. Christy born March 23rd 1843
Mary Christy March 25th 1845
John (middle initial looks like a W)Christy June 19th 1848
J. Neal Christy October 31st 1850
Randle Christy May 5th 1853
Catherine Christy September 6th 1856
Jane Christy March 22nd 1859
Under Deaths...
John Hill Christy March 26th 1878 (buried March 31, 1878
James Neal Christy July 1st 1888 1:30 AM Sunday
(buried July 5, 1888 2:00 PM)
The few tax receipts tucked in the Bible are all in James Christy's name and are all dated in the 1880's. The location listed is Whitemarsh Township in Montgomery County Pennsylvania.
I hope this is helpful to you. On Thursday I will be giving the Bible to Dottie from the other posts. It turns out that her husband is a direct descendant of the James Christy listed in the Bible.

Message Board Post:
Greetings:
Thank you for your posted message. I have a direct-line Christy Ancestor who was born in 1810 in the Missouri Territory. Is there any way that all of the Christy data in the Bible could be posted on this Message Board? I believe that would be a help to all of us who are connected with the Christy lines.
If the information in the Bible is too extensive to be copied by someone in your family, do you know of anyone that would copy the data for a fee? Please tell us about how many names there would be in the Bible and what percentage of those would have most of their personal information included.
I would also be interested in the ancestors of James and his wife Mary Hill with their families. There is a James Christy in the book by Bayard Henderson Christy, "James Christy of Westmoreland Co. PA Ranger on the Frontier During the Revolutionary War." Is the James Christy in your post related to that James Christy?
The Patriarch of the Christies who first settled in Pennsylvania was Andrew Christy born in 1718 in Garvauh, Ulster, Londonderry, Northern Ireland. He died in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania after 1790. He came to America in 1762 with his three children John, Ann, and James (Not the same James in your post). Later several families from this group migrated to Kinsman County, Ohio, where their descendants still reside.
Here is a brief description of the Andrew Christy family that was shared with me by one of our Christy researchers in October of last year (2010). I can give you that person's name and email address if you contact me offline at jamerm(a)comcast.net.
"Jim,
I have a typed and many times photocopied document titled The Christy Family In America, by Eleanor Christy Kramer and Margaret Christy Ackerman. This document was in the possession of my wife's grandmother of Kinsman, Ohio, and she gave it to my father-in-law.
My knowledge is purely based on this document, plus an occasional verification on the internet. (I saw the same male line that leads to her recently on a Christy Forum I guess it was.
The document states that "Andrew Christy was born in Northern Ireland, in or near County Louth (lieth), as Lurgan Greene was their marketplace. He came to America from the county of Ulster, Londonderry, in the year 1762 and landed at Philadelphia, Pa. He brought with him his three children James, John and Ann. It is believed that his wife died previous to his coming to America as there is no record of her landing. Her name was either Mary or Margaret Wilson."
There is another group of Christies that came from Scotland and settled in North Carolina. The Patriarch of that group was also named Andrew Christie and he was born in Kilmany, Fife, Scotland on 16 October 1737. He died about 1790 In Iredell County, North Carolina. (See the 1790 US Federal Census for Iredell County, NC where his wife is listed as a Widow.)
Thank you again for sharing your data!
Your friend, Jim McIntosh
Please have a great day with your best friend - our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
