Dear Phil, (your profile is on the Upper Merion Areal School District website)
I can't believe that you found the Christy Family Bible! Thank you so much for contacting me. I can hardly contain my joy! The Christy family is my husband's mother's father's family. My husband is a great-great grandson of James Christy and the great grandson of James Neal Christy who died so young!
This bible belongs to many Christy descendants with whom I am in contact - from here in Glenside, PA to Monterey California.
I live in Glenside, Montgomery County, probably not far from you. Do you want to meet? I can show you the famiy tree book if you are interested. This is a thrill beyond compare.
Just the fact that James Christy and Mary Hill were married on the 15 of April, 1842 is a new fact. I know that the eldest children, Mary, George and John were born it Ottowa Canada. I don't know if James and Mary were married in Northern Ireland or Canada, but having the date is marvelous!
The eldest daughter, Mary, born in Ottowa, Canada, lived in what is now Conshohocken. Her son-in-law was a Burgess of the town around the turn of the century. She lived to be 98 years old and I am assuming that this bible was in her hands because she cared for her father, James, until he died in 1909. That's another story in itself!
I would like to know where you purchased this book because it will give me a clue to other relatives (I guess).
Thank you again for contacting me. Let me know how you want to handle this. I can meet you if you want or I can pay you to mail it to me. I'd really like to thank you in person. We can do lunch.
The Christy Family is ever grateful to you.
Sincerely,
Dottie Clark

A couple pieces to your family puzzle that I didn't mention in my last post... John Hill Christy died March 26,1878 and was buried on March 31,1878. James Neal Christy died on July 1, 1888 (1:30 am Sunday)and was buried on July 5,1888(2:00 pm) They are the only 2 deaths listed in the Bible. Also, each birth is listed with the date.

I live in Montgomery County PA and I purchased an old bible at a yard sale a number of years ago. The book is from the 1800's and I believe it is the family bible of the Christy family you wrote about. It's the bible of James Christy and Mary Hill married on April 15, 1842. It also lists the births of all the children you listed and a couple deaths with dates. There are also some tax bills and receipts in the book. Contact me. I would love to give this book back to the Christy family where it belongs.

I believe that John & Catherine Christy were the parents of Samuel. I have old family papers listing the children of John & Catherine. Samuel was not on the list, but maybe the person composing the list didn't know about him. The list does name Eliza, b 1811. Gallia Co. OH marriage records show her marrying John Barker in 1831. I believe they had the following children; Amanda, Emily, Poline (Toline?) and Ann. Eliza, Amanda & Emily are on the 1850 Mason Co. census with Samuel. I believe the census taker made a mistake in not listing them with the surname of Barker instead of Christy. On the 1880 Kanawha Co, WV census, Samuel has in his household Mandy Barker (niece)which leads me to believe that Eliza is a sister to Samuel. As for the 1900 showing that he & his parents were born in OH, perhaps he wasn't the person giving the information & whoever did respond to the questions didn't know the correct answer.
