Greetings Kim:
My email address is jamerm(a)comcast.net. If you could email me your address, I have some information I could share with you about the descendants of Joseph Christy born in 1766 in Pennsylvania and who died in 1830 in Bedford, Tennessee. Joseph's wife's name was Mary and they had three children = John, James, and William. John was born in 1808 in Iredell, North Carolina and died in 1880 in Search, Arkansas. In 1838 John married Elisabeth Sarah Baker who had been born in 1807 in North Carolina.
John and Elisabeth had seven children between 1831 and about 1850. Their third child was your Elisabeth Mae who was born in 1837 and who married Porter Hensley as you noted in your post. Porter and Elisabeth's child Lula Abigail was born in 1867. On 11 Oct 1883 Lula married Alex Sheridan Johnson. Their child Cora Elisabeth was born in 1886. In 1910 Cora married Chester Clovis Renfroe. Their daughter Bertha was born in 1913.
It is interesting that the Patriarch of these five generations was born in Pennsylvania in 1766, and some of the other descendants were born in Iredell, North Carolina. I have wondered if the John born in 1766 may have been a descendant of Andrew Christy born in 1718 in Garvaugh, Ulster, Northern Ireland. This Andrew had three children, John, Ann, and James Murphy whom he brought to America with him in 1762. This Andrew is the patriarch of the Christies who were born in Pennsylvania and those who later migrated to Kinsman, Ohio.
Another interesting fact to put into the mix is that most of the North Carolina Christies descended from a different Andrew Christie than we have been discussing. This NC Andrew was born in Kilmany, Fife, Scotland on 16 Oct 1737. He died about 1790 in Iredell, North Carolina. Most of the Christies who were born in that state in the late 1700s and the early 1800s can trace their roots back to this second Andrew Christy who migrated to America in about 1772 and started a colony in Iredell County, North Carolina.
It would be unusual for the Pennsylvania group that started in 1762 later became a part of the North Carolina group which got started about 1772. And in both cases the leaders of the two clans had the identical name of Andrew Christie!
I think I had better get off my soap opera now and perhaps we can resume this discussion after Christmas and the New Year. What do you think Kim?
Your friend, Jim McIntosh
Please have a great day with your best friend - our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
