The following historic home near Altoona, PA may be of interest to a descendent of Martin and Elizabeth (McKnight - 1811) Bell (1806). The solid brick home was built in 1832 and was the home in which the Bell's reared their children. The 13 room federal style home is in good condition as is the large barn. The ice house/smoke house still stands. The remains of Elizabeth Furnace (a pig iron furnace) are adjacent to the property. The community associated with the furnace was called Sabbath Rest, PA because the Bell's developed a way to 'stoke' the furnace over Sunday so that the employees could have a day off. The village name was later changed to Pinecroft.
The 87 acres surrounding the house include fields, meadow, woods and a creek. The property is listed by Howard Hanna Johnston Realty under MLS number 18208.
