I'm hoping that your Samuel will shed some light on my gg-grandfather, Thomas Christy/Christie b. abt. 1830 =/- 5 years in OH or VA, whose parents we cannot locate.
According to my late mother's research (pre-computer age), She located a Samuel Christy , age 34, living in Mason Co. Clendenin Dist., VA (later WV), in the 1850 Mason Co. Va [WV] Census. Also in the home were:
Eliza, age 40
Thomas, age 22 [ who would be the right age for my gg-grandfather who raised his family in Mason Co and later Cabell Co., WV]
Abraham, age 19
Amanda, age 15
Emily, age 12.
My Thomas Christy (spelled Christie on his marriage record) died in 1893, probably in Huntington, WV. He m. Jemima Hughes (1822-1890)
in Gallia Co. OH, in 1851. They had 3 sons, Jerome (1853-1935). James Wm. [my g-grandfather] ( 1858-1901), and Jefferson (1862 -??).
Thomas & Jemima also switch their states of birth back and forth between OH and VA on the census records.
Since the Thomas in the Samuel and Eliza household in 1850 was 22, he may have been Eliza's son by a previous marriage but is not likely to be Samuel's son since Samuel was 34 in 1850.
I found another Samuel Christy in the 1860 Kanawha Co. census on Heritage Quest online. That Samuel was age 38 in 1860, and married to Minerva, with children Edgar (8), Thomas (age 6), Millard (4), and Albert (1). Occupation: Steam Boat Captain. POB: VA.
Does any of this information help? I would be delighted if you can make any connection between your Samuel and my Thomas Christy.
Good luck,
Mary Cervantes, gg-granddaughter of Thomas Christy. Searching: Christy, Bush, Eads, Hughes, Doss -- among others.....

Looking for information on the parents of Captain Samuel Christy, born about 1819, most likely in Kanawha County, (West) Virginia. He was a ship pilot and later owner of a couple of ships that went up and down the Ohio River. He had a brother William, born abt. 1818 and his parents may have been John and Catherine Christy of the Shenandoah Valley. But for some strange reason on the 1900 census at the age of 81 he claims to have been born in Ohio and both of his parents were born in Ohio.

I am a gggrandaughter of Jonathan Christy and 2nd wife Catharine Covert Christy. The information I have regarding the William Henry Christy and Susannah Henderson family mostly settled in Lincoln Co., OK. I have the birth dates of all of the children, birth place and a few spouses names if you can use them. Also, if you contact:
Lincoln County Historical Society 405-258-2425
719 Manvel
Chandler, OK 74834
lchs(a)brightoak.net
They have a wonderful book "History of Lincoln County" that have many early day settlers and a write up about some of the families. Some of my Christy's married Clarks and they are in this book.
I was in Chandler at the historical society and was given directions for two of the cemeteries where Christy's and Clarks are buried. Wellston Cemetery and StarValley Cemetery aka Christy Cemetery. Checking my list of those buried at the StarValley cemetery I find a Leroy Christy date of birth 06-19-1898 and died 06-27-1975 Army WWI
The Kellerby Cemetery-Lincoln, Co also has Christys buried there.
Hope some of this information will be helpful.
