With all the recent attention on wives of various Andrew Christys, perhaps
someone can clear up conflicting information that I have found in various
sources. The Andrew Christy in my question was born about 1755 in North
Carolina and died in 1822, Monroe County, Indiana. One source gave
Margaret Dempster, but I found other sources with conflicting
information. Does anyone have definitive information about the name of
Andrew's wife? Did he marry more than once?
Roberta
I have a James, son of James Milton Christy, Jr, son of James Milton
Christy, Sr. James Sr. m. Sarah Scarborough. Who do you want? And I have always
enjoyed more information, if you please. Thanks Anne.
Joan, I remember somewhere coming across a
Christy/Haws connection in Chester County PA. I'll
have to go back and check my records. If I find
something, I'll post it.
Also, Does anyone have any information on the John
Christy who settled in PA?
Thanks,
Mark
I'm still searching for my Irish gggrandfather M. E.
CHRISTY who
settled in
PA (I don't have the year but he had a son in 1868)
and was married to
a
woman named WRIGHT, then to a woman named HAWS.
Anyone sound
familiar???
Joann

Mary,
If memory serves, we concluded that your CHRISTY line is probably not my
line. Have you tried to link with the families of Julius CHRISTY? They
were, for a time, in Greenbrier County VA, now WV, having come from
Augusta County.
Another remote clue is that there were a family of CHRISTIE's who lived
for a time in northwest WV. One family member became a river boat
captain on either the Ohio or the Missouri River. One of our CHRISTIE
family historians thought the captain was ours, but he was not.
Best wishes,
Bill Hobbs
My line goes back to London, 1500's. They were Quakers and fled London
because of persecution. Who do you have? John Scarsborough came to Pennsylvania
with his father to establish a homestead, a grant given to them by Wm. Penn.
He stayed, Dad went home, Mom didn't want to go back with him so he stayed.
And I have Father's father also, from London. Anne
Forgot to mention that I can send you more information if you want it. The
Monnett Family goes to the St. Barthelemew Day Massacre, The Scarborough
Family is extensive because they link my husband and me. I'll wait to hear from
you. Sincerely, Anne Christy
It was so nice to find that I am correct with my line. I have them all,

Robert K. CHRISTY is the GR A N D S O N of James Milton CHRISTY and
Elizabeth GARTEN. The 12 siblings I mentioned above include James who
was married at least three times: to Keziah VICE, Nancy FLINN, and
Harriet KINSLER. I have NO children listed for these marriages and would
love to have the information you have. I do have info on the siblings
and some descendants of James Milton CHRISTY/Elizabeth GARTEN and his
father, James CHRISTY and Sarah SCARBOROUGH.
Sorry for the confusion. I have not looked at this database in two years
and tried to go from memory. Not a good idea :-)

I have another Andrew Christy to throw at you. We have verified
everything we have on this Andrew from his marriage on down through his
children, but do not know who his parents were, but they were in the US
before 1768. We suspect a James and Jane Christy. So my Andrew Christy
was born in Ohio in 1768. ( I took pix of his tombstone last summer in
Sumner, IL). At some point he relocates to KY and in 1791 in Fayette
KY, marries an Elizabeth Cartmill, daughter of Samuel and Mary. By 1794
they are back in Ohio, probably Butler county where most of their
children were born. ~ 1824 Andrew and Elizabeth take their younger
children and relocate to Lawrence county IL. Two of their sons were
already living and working there. Children:
Polly b ky
James b oh stayed there and raised family
Samuel b oh, became a wealthy business owner and married the daughter of
a prominent french family in the Cahokia, St. Clair cty part of IL.
(Nicholas Jarrot)
Jane b oh stayed there
Andrew b oh, became a wealthy business owner working with his brother
for a time, in St. Clair cty. IL, eventually became a prominent
millionare businessman in St. Louis, MO.
John b oh, moved to Lawrence cty IL and raised family
Joseph b oh moved to IL
Mary b oh moved to IL
William Y. b oh, moved to IL, became a wealthy landowner and civic
leader in Sumner IL
Nancy b oh, moved to IL
Harriet b oh moved to IL
This is my husband's CHRISTY line.

I have read with great interest your reply to Eugenia Brown regarding Andrew Christy born 1805. In your reply you state that there were two Andrew Christys who came from the British Isles about 1760. What is your documentation about this. I can find only one Andrew Christy who arrived on the Brig Couli Kan in November1745 in the port of Philadelphia. He was an indentured servant so it was quite unlikely that he was married. There is a record of an Andrew Christy selling some land that was in the Martic Forge in the 1760's but there is no record of him ever having bought the land. I have been doing research on the Andrew Christy SR who was the receipent of a land grant in
Rowan County in 1783 and who died in Rowan County prior to 1790 for the past 10 years. I have gone to Rowan and Iredell Counties and explored all of the genealogical material in their rexpective libraries and Historical Soceities as well as hiring professional genealogists in Rowan County NC as well as Lancaster County PA. I have fouind not one shred of evidence as to where Andrew Christy SR came from prior to Rowan County. I can, by deduction, with reasonable certainty establish that he arrived in Rowan County after 1763 and prior to 1778 but I can find nothing that tells me where he came from. If you have such evidence I would be most grateful if you were to supply it. Raymond Christy

Am looking for information on William Christy married to Nellie Ruble. He is listed as an invalid on the 1900 census in Kingfisher, OK. It listed him being born in Ohio around 1845 and Nellie was from Missouri. I believe he died shortly afterward. They had two sons, Hallie and William T.
Hi Joan,
Do you have anything on Archibald Christy. You seem to have all the
Christy's in the United States/
Archibald was born in the middle of the 1700's. He was in the revolutionary
war from Cumberland Co Pa No one has been able to prove his parenthood.
There was a Martin and Hannah Christy in Philadelphia who is presumed to be
Archibald's parents,
But no proof. Can not find his marriage . We think to a mary rondebush.
We are not even sure where he was born. I would be ever grateful if you
could help me with this. I have been trying for many years to filnd where
he came from.
Thank you for any help.

Good morning Joan:
In your post you say, "James Christy b 1752, N Ireland. m Jan 1774 Mary Campbell. They had 9 children...I have their names."
I do not believe James and Mary had nine children. I believe they only had seven. When Mary Campbell died on 11 May 1790, James married Mary McCall on 22 Jun 1791. Mary McCall was born in 1759 and died on 18 Jul 1859. She and James had five children making a total of twelve for James Christy born in 1852.
If you would like to send me the nine names you have, I can tell you which seven belong to James and Mary Campbell and can give you the names and dates and locations of Births, Marriages, and Deaths for the five children of James and Mary McCall.
The information I have on this line is courtesy of Ed Visser who was kind enough to provide me with a copy of the manuscript he refers to in his post. The Andrew Christy line you have identified consisted of the Christies who settled originally in Pennsylvania and later many of their descendants moved to Kinsman, Ohio. This group did not settle in North Carolina and it is not the same Andrew Christy family that came from Scotland about the same time as your Andrew came from Northern Ireland.
The Andrew from Scotland came to North Carolina where most of his grandchildren were born. They originally settled in Rowan and Irdell Counties before their posterity headed for Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana.
There is also a William Christy who came from the British Isles about the same time as the two Andrew Christies and I have always thought they might be cousins, but have not found the sources to make that connection yet.
I have read the book you cited dealing with James Christy the Ranger on the frontier during the Revolutionary War. He is the same James Christy you have as born in 1852 in Northern Ireland.
Your friend, Jim
