Hi Bill, I am interested in more info (if available) regarding your Robert listed as your g/g/g grandfather. Do you have more info about his bios such as dob , places of residence prior to marriage etc. I am searching a Robert of Edgefield Co., SC who died there circa 1823.. We are searching his ancestors who are rather illusive at this point with several possibilities. I think our Robert's parents may have been another Robert from Virginia,Robert and Ann (Lambert). early 1700's. IN addition, we wonder if Robert of Edgefield may have marrried into an Allen family, thus the naming of Robert's oldest son, Josiah Allen Christie, Other children were listed as Martha, Sibby, Simeon, Elihu, and William.
Any help or information will be appreciated..

Here is some clarification on the various James CHRISTYs and James CHRISTIEs:
The original immigrant is James CHRISTY b. London, 1746. I have never seen that he had a middle name.
James CHRISTY had four children, all with Sarah SCARBOROUGH, his first wife. The children are Robert (my ggg grandfather), James Milton, Isabella and Elizabeth. I DO NOT know why James Milton is called, "Jr."
James Maxwell CHRISTIE is a witness to James CHRISTY's will. James Maxwell was his grandson and my gg grandfather.
Sarah CHRISTY is the daughter of James Milton CHRISTY. She married Edward WYLIE, son of John Wylie, Jr. (1777-1850) and Sarah WYATT (1780-1849). John WYLIE Jr. and Sarah WYATT were both born in VA and died in Hamilton County TN.
If any of you want to continue this thread, please allow me to reply on the CHRISTY-L and/or CHRISTIE-L mailing list. It is easier.
By the way, somehow, almost in unison, the name CHRISTY changed to CHRISTIE during the 1850s.

Thanks, Bill, this is most helpful. But it raises a new question: Who was James Maxwell Christie? For that matter, where do we get the middle name Milton for James sr.? He doesn't use one here or in the other contemporary records I've seen (which I admit are as yet very few).

Brian,
Lewis did get married in Greencastle Indiana at the time the Christy family was there. In fact Mary B. was married just a few months before Lewis and Lavina. Lewis marriage records say Christy and Christie. There could still be a chance that he is the son of this couple and all the family stories are wrong.

Brian,
thanks. We have a list of kids for this couple and in some of the cases the relationship can be proved. My ancestor Lewis Jefferson Christian/Christy, m. Lavina Frazier, appears on this list. So far I haven't been able to prove it. I have sent for obits for the other kids but most of them don't mention siblings or parents. There isn't a will for James Christy Sr. I was informed by a Garten researcher that the list is fabricated from marriage info, which doesn't disprove the relationship but isn't concrete either.
If you have any suggestions for finding more info on James and Eliz. Christy it would be welcomed.
Thanks,

Yeah, and I suppose the marriage info didn't say who the parties' parents were. I've been following the thread on Lewis Christian and have decided to drop him from my group sheet since, if he came from TN as an adult, he wouldn't be of this family. I'm also unsure about my link, Sarah Christie who married Ed Wiley. The first name is no proof since Sarah was a very popular name.

I maybe shouldn't stick my oar in, having never seen the stones myself, but tombstone weathering often degrades numbers. What if the 42 was originally 62? That would fit perfectly with Eliz. Garten. Or, what if the cutter mistakenly put the span of her marriage rather than her life? From 10/11/1804 to 4/23/1847 is 42 years, 6 months, 12 days. Could "6 months" have weathered to look like "8 months"?
HI Fran,
You caught my interest with the Johns surname. It seems to me that I have a branch of Christie's that married a Johns.. Ok I found it, Fitz James Christie married Elizabeth Anna Johns Feb 11, 1841 in Erie PA. Elizabeths parents were William Johns and Anne or Nancy Dunn. Elizabeth Johns was born Aug 16, 1821 in Chambersburg, PA. She died Feb 18, 1902 in New York City NY. Now her husband Fitz James Christie died Sept 19, 1848 in Erie PA, so it is possible that Elizabeth may have remarried. Their children were Anna Virginia Christie and William Peter Christie. Both born in Erie PA. William in 1842 March 22, and Anna Dec 23 1843. Any of this sound familiar? Fitz James Christie's father was Peter J. Christie and his mother was Agnes/Nancy Gillespie. Peter born in NJ and Agnes born in Spain. I did find a Margaret Christie/y in Erie PA and have not found out who she belongs too. Any help would be great. Thanks bunches..

Hi Debbie,
They lived in the Philadelphia PA area late 1800's and early 1900's. Nellie B. Christy, James Francis Christy and William Christy. This will be very interesting, since I have met brick walls. The Johns and Mullen families are part of this branch, too.
Thanks for your e-mail,
