Any information on the Christie familys' in Co. Down would be helpful. Please e-mail me at colette(a)annetta.com. TIA

Hi:
Here is a question for all you Christy experts. I have found
something that I would like some help with. As I have said before, I am
searching for a William Christ (whatever the spelling). Recently I
found out that his name is William Christ or Christy, born either
7/25/1801 or 7/25/1802. He was the son of a William Christ(y) and
Elizabeth Miller, married at Stouchsburg, in 1801. I found a Joh Georg
Wilhelm Guseman married to an Anna Catharina Heckin, 11/12/1749 at
Stouchsburg. It lists him with the birth records of two children. (Anna
Margaretha and Joh George) There is also a George Adam Geiss listed
with the birth record of a child. (Heinrich Adam) I found in
Strassburger & Hinke that there were two by that name on the Snow Molly,
John Cranch, Master, 10/26/1741; Hans Adam Cresman, age 17 and Yerigh
Wilhelm Geesman, age 23. Could they be the same two that are at
Stouchsburg?
I have a Hans Adam and Johann George Christ, at Stouchsburg, as the
children of Johannes Christ married to Anna Barbara Muller. I have him
listed on the Pa Prelist 7/11/1726. That would mean Adam and George
would not have been listed on the ship records because they were not old
enough. So who are these people on the Snow Molly? How many early
Adam's and George's attended this church?
I thought I had things figured out with them and now I am confused.
Which Adam and George are brothers at Stouchsburg? Who are my new Adam
and Georg or William, which ever name he went by, and who are the Adam
and George that went to York. Which two were on the Robert and Alice in
1742?
I have alot of information on these people, I just want to make sure
I have it with the right people. If anyone knows anything about these
people, I would appreciate hearing.
I would like to hash this thing out. Thanks, Brenda
Hi,
My Christi, etc., were French. They lived in France prior to living in
Louisiana. A couple of lines that married into the Christillie line lived
in Canada prior to Louisiana.
Doe anyone else on this list have Christys who weren't really Christy but
the name was shortened over time for the sake of simplicity and spelling?
I've found records in the Catholic church records.

Hello,
So happy that I found this mailing list.
All I know of my Mary is that she was born 1787, married to Samuel Anderson,
died 1873 and is buried in the Anderson Cem. in Greenwood Twp., Crawford
Co., Pa. They may have had 11 children. I come from their son John called
"Old Jack" who married Nancy Hall.
I would like to find who her parents were and where she was born.
I do know there was a John Christie m. to Sarah Dunbar and they lived in
Slippery Rock Twp., Butler Co., Pa. He was born 1744 in Ulster, Ireland,
but I do not know if there is any connection there.
1800 census of Crawford Co., shows a Neal Christy, 1810 & 1820 James, 1820
Henery. Have not been able to connect there either.
Would love to hear from anyone of the Christy family that may know something
more than I do.
Thanks,
Betty Macdonald
Searching for John CHRISTY b. around 1808 in NC.He married Elisabeth and had
several children some in Tenn. and others in Ark.My line is from their
daughter Elisabeth who later marries Poter M. HENSLEY.Thanks for any

Brenda,
Sorry, I deleted your posting just as it occurred to me that these families
may have been PA Dutch. Both names (with some variation in spelling) are
plentiful in that tradition and especially in that PA location.
If so, you may find information by subscribing to the Church of the Brethren
email list on rootsweb. The address is:
BRETHREN-request(a)rootsweb.com They also have a website, which someone on
the list can give you.
Good luck,
Janet
Hi Christy researchers:
Funny this query should pop up tonight. I just found out a couple
minutes ago that the William Christ I thought was married to someone,
ended up being married to an Elizabeth Miller. Does anyone have info on
a William Christy, married to Elizabeth Miller, 12/3/1801? I have been
looking for a long time to find out something on this family. Now what
I am finding out, isn't exactly what I thought it would be. I could use
some help. Oh, by the way, these people are from Lancaster, Lebanon co,
Pa.
Thanks, Brenda
Hello Lori and Patricia
I wonder if there is a link between the GUTHRIEs that you refer to below and
the following person(s):
Andrew Davidson CHRISTIE (b.1620 Fettercairn, Montrose) married in his 2nd
marriage on 18 February 1672
Anna Henriksdatter GUTHRIE in Nykirken, Bergen, Norway. Anna was buried in
Nykirken on 19 April 1713.
She was the daughter of Henrik GUTHRIE who was born in Montrose, Scotland.
He became a citizen of Bergen,
Norway in 1650.
Anna was also, I believe, born in Montrose. Andrew also called himself
Anders in Norway.
Andrew and Anna had one son, David Andersson CHRISTIE b. 1673 d. 1719. In a
contract between himself and his mother dated 2 September 1695 he writes his
name David Christison.
There were no living children in Andrew's first marriage. His first wife
died while being pregnant.
Please see also my previous posting to the list about Andrew Davidson
Christie for some more background info.
Best regards

Thank you very much. I have only recently discovered the seven volumes
of SQF, and to date only have volume seven. This information is much
appreciated and will probably propel me toward contacting Lowell
Scarborough for more volumes.

Hi Mary et al,
I have James Milton CHRISTY Sr., b. 1746 London England, moved to
Greenbrier County VA (now Monroe County VA) and married Sarah
SCARBOROUGH on 5 Jul, 1780. James Sr. & Sarah had the following
children:
Isabella CHRISTY m. George BAILEY/BAYLEY/BEALY in 1797.
Elizabeth CHRISTY m. Andrew Brumwell Allen in 1802.
Robert CHRISTY m. Margaret CROZIER in 1804.
These three children and their descendants are more or less accounted
for; however, little is known about the fourth child, James Milton
CHRISTY Jr. We do know that he married Elizabeth Garten, thedaughter of
Nathaniel Garten, noted Indian scout, in 1804. James Jr. Enlisted in
the War of 1812. Shortly after the War of 1812, James Jr. and his
family sold their land and holdings in Monroe County AND MOVED TO OHIO!
James Christy Jr. had 10 sons. He became a captain on a steamboat on
the Ohio River.
We DO NOT know the names of his sons :-( One of his grandsons MAY HAVE
been named, Ardel.
This is our CHRISTIE (our line changed the spelling about 1850. We do
not know why.) mystery. If you have any steamboat captain stories in
your family, we may have a connection. Family history says James Jr. ran
between Cincinatti and New Orleans in his older years.
Let me know what you think.
Good luck,
Bill Hobbs
Still searching for Elizabeth CHRISTY/CHRISTIE.She was b. in 1839 Ark. and
married Porter M. HENSLEY in 1862 in Wayne Co.,Tenn.Thanks for any help in
locating her line...kim
Hello all:
My grandfather, James Wm. CHRISTY, Jr., b. 24 Dec 1893, in Huntington,
Cabell Co. WVA, was the son of James Wm. Sr.,
(b. 1 Oct 1858 in VA; d. 11 May 1901, Huntington, WVA) and
Priscilla (aka"Permelia") Frances (aka "Fannie") BUSH (b. 3 Nov 1854 in
VA and d. 25 Oct 1934, Cinti.Oh.). They were
married 30 April 1878 in Gallia Co. Oh.
James Wm. CHRISTY, Sr. was the son of THOMAS CHRISTY or CHRISTIE, b.
abt. 1835, possibly in Ohio. Thomas died
1 Dec 1893(place?) and JEMIMA HUGHES, who was between 5 and 17 yrs older
than her husband according to the 1860 and 1870 Cabell Co. censuses. She
was born probably before 1830, possibly in Ohio. I do not have her date
of death either.
Thomas and Jemima CHRISTY had 2 other sons: Jerome: b. abt. 1854 and
Jefferson, b. abt. 1862.
Thomas & Jemima CHRISTY lived in Cabell Co. WVA during the 1860 and 1870
censuses; by 1880, James Wm. Sr. was in Mason Co. , WVA, and in 1900, he
and the family were in Huntington, WVA (Cabell Co.), where my
grandfather was born in 1893.
Thomas and Jemima (HUGHES) CHRISTY or CHRISTIE are my brick walls: there
are other Jemima HUGHES who are
placed farther South. I would appreciate any and all information-- I
have photos and other information willing to share. Thank you!
Mary Cervantes, gg-granddaugher of Thomas & Jemima CHRISTY
