I think I have discovered where the name Kimsey comes from!!!!
I went back and read some of the minutes of Wahoo Baptist Church in Lumpkin Co, GA and also some information found in the book: Heritage of Lumpkin Co, GA 1832-1996. When the church was established on October 31, 1819 it was then part of Hall Co, GA. William Christopher (son of Ambrose Christopher, Sr.) was the first minister and was the pastor for almost 41 years until his death. The church was also pastored by S.M. Kimsey for 22 years.
On March 27, 1835 another church was established in Lumpkin Co, GA, The First Baptist Church of Christ at Kimsey's Creek. On this day a presbytery consisting of the following Baptist preachers was formed: Robert Obar, William Kimsey, William Christopher, Joseph Chastain and Thomas Kimsey.
It always seemed strange to me that my great, great grandfather William (son of Wm. & Nancy Taylor Christopher) would be named Kimsey with so many men with the surname of Kimsey in the Hall/Lumpkin Co, GA area along with Kimsey Creek. I started researching the Kimsey's and found they were in Buncombe Co, NC which connected to Rutherford Co, NC.
William Kimsey was born in Henry Co, Va, 23 Feb 1783, the son of Benjamin Kimzey Jr and Agnes Lane.
He came to what was then Burke County, North Carolina, around 1798. He settled on a little creek called "Devil's Fork" not far from where Hendersonville, North Carolina, is now located.
He was a Baptist minister.
He married Rebecca Williamson, 7 March 1805, Buncombe Co, NC.
William Kimsey and his family moved to Chattooga County, Georgia, and settled in Dirttown Valley and lived there for several years.
Children are: Sarah Reed, Elijah Williamson, John Mann, Rachel Rebecca, Joshua Taylor, Anatacia, Elizabeth, Malinda, Thomas Rhodes, William Wiley, James Gardiner, Mary, Humphrey Posey.
William Kimsey and his brother Thomas Kimsey (also a preacher) did not move to Tennesee with the rest of the family. They had a brother named Solomon Kimsey who was also a preacher but I couldn't find any evidence he moved to GA.
After his fathers death, William sells the land that his grandfathers brother, William Kimsey, had willed to his father, Benjamin Jr.
William Kimsey named one of his sons Joshua Taylor.
William Kimsey Christopher's mother was Nancy Taylor, daughter of Joshua Taylor (my 4th great grandfather) in Rutherford Co, NC.
I think this proves the Kimsey's, Christopher's and the Taylor's were in Rutherford Co and surrounding areas at the same time and have much deeper connections than what I have found thus far. There may be marriages into the Kimsey family by Christopher's and Taylors??
I will continue my search, so more to follow.....
