Lois,
Always good to hear from you, hope all is well in your part of the world. I hear ya, we all had our areas that we grouped in it seems, but also, we seemed to find other Christopher's that may have been near our locations. Your line, my line, Northumberland Christopher's, we all seemed to be close to each other in both North and South Carolina. I can't remember enough to speak knowingly about any one group, including my bunch, but I do seem to think that sometimes these groups ran into each other and may have formed long term relations with each other. Trying to recall, correct me, or fill me in, your group came directly to NC back in the early 1800's? Were they Dutch, Swedish, some kind of craftsmen, maybe woodwork? What do you know about them before NC, did they come from some of the Dutch, Swedish settlements in and around New York, Delaware from back in the late 16, 1700's?
How does your Davis research go, we are interested in some of the Christopher, Davis connections in Virginia, and the Carolina's, if you have any connects with those two lines from the mid 1700 to 1850's range, or any where near that, would sure like to hear about it.
Thanks,David
ps, Sorry it took me a while to get back to you...

Here's what I am thinking on this subject. I think that maybe the James
Christopher 1782, thats in Abbeville is the father of Wm. and Buckner
Griffin Christopher and that he dies somewhere before 1818. Also that James
is tied somehow to William Davis. After James passes on, John Davis, maybe a
brother, or son of William Davis signs the guardianship papers with David
Christopher for the two boys.
Ralph Griffin Christopher(son of Ambrose Sr.), who shows up in Abbeville
around 1803, is in Alabama in the 1830's. Buckner Griffin Christopher is in
the will of Ralph and is stated as his Nephew. So we see a connection of
Buckner Griffin to Ambrose, if he's a nephew to Ralph, then one of Ralphs's
brothers should be Buckner's father? The problem I am dealing with here is
math, if Ambrose and Elizabeth Griffin got married around 1773, then an
adult James could not be their son in Abbeville in 1782, so maybe James is
not part of this picture, but theres a connection here that we are missing.
Ralph Griffin states in his AutoBio that he left NC and went to the
Abbeville District with a sister and brother-in-law. Is it possible that his
sister married a Davis, maybe John? We need to look back at the NC records
and see if a Davis maybe married a Christopher, that might give us the name
of Ambrose's daughter, Ralph's sister.
According to Ralph's Auto, we should be able to pick him up in the 1820
Census for Newberry County SC, and in 1823 he moves with his new wife and
family to Alabama.
What about James that is the son of William, Ambrose Sr's brother, could
that be him in Abbeville in 1782?
With Buckner being declared a nephew to Ralph, then he has to be a son of
one of Ralph's brother's, Buckner was born in 1812, so who was his father
that was also a brother to Ralph Griffin, Ambrose Jr., and William?
And WHO is the sister and brother-in-law that Ralph comes with to Abbeville
in 1803 with? Million dollar questions, but somewhere theres an answer, if
we just dig deep enough.
Thanks,
David

Who was it a long time back that was asking me about Buckner Griffin
Christopher that came out of Abbeville, S.C. Thanks to one of our cousins
over in Mississippi, we will be getting a complete line of info on Buckner
Griffin. It has also been determined that Buckner Griffin Christopher was a
Nephew to Ralph Griffin Christopher. Ralph Griffin Christopher is a son of
Ambrose Christopher Sr. 1754 Halifax County Virginia. The story on Buckner
Griffin is gonna be a bit unusual, as in 1818 in Abbeville he and his
brother William were placed in the guardianship of a David Christopher as
minor children. I don't know if they were orphans, or runaways. Ralph
Griffin Christopher was also in and out of Abbeville back in the early
1800's. I can't say if there was ever any contact between them in the
Abbeville setting, as David is not in Abbeville by the time the 1820 Census
rolls around. Ralph Griffin states in his Autobiography that he had an aunt
that lived in Greene County, Georgia, and in fact went to stay with them
back around 1807-08. Now at various times, and I don't have the info right
in front of me, a David Christopher also shows up in Greene County. I wonder
if this is the same David that takes the two minor boys into his
guardianship in 1818? What happens from there is not yet discovered, but
Ralph Griffin moves to Alabama around 1823, and it seems that Buckner
Griffin is at the Will of Ralph in 1839 as an Executor with Ralph's wife,
Ann Tillman Chiles Christopher as the Executrix.
So we will have more information as it becomes available, if you are
interested in this line of Christopher's, drop me a line.
Thanks,
David
PS; We still don't know what became of William who appears to be Buckner's
brother, though thats not proven yet, nor do we know who the parents of
either of the boys are, other than its stated in Ralph's Will that Buckner
is a Nephew to him, which would make him a son to one of Ralph's brothers,
which one, don't know? Maybe David in Abbeville is Ralph's brother, and the
guardianship on the two boys is just a legal matter, maybe David is their
natural Father divorced from his wife and the boys ran away to join up with
their dad in Abbeville? Or maybe David was away on a trip from home and his
wife passed away, not able to get back, maybe the boys joined up with David
in Abbeville and took legal guardianship through the courts?
PSS; If anyone has any insight or input on this, I would like to hear it.

In Ralph Griffin Christopher's Will, he mentions that
Buckner Griffin Christopher as his NEPHEW. So whoever
belongs to Buckner Griffin Christopher and Sarah
Cosby, belong in the Nicholas Christopher family
tree.....
Which would also make the Wm.(William) Christopher
that was orphaned with Buckner(brothers we assume), is
also part of the Nicholas Christopher family tree.
This would also most likely make the David Christopher
in 1818 that took guardianship of the two Christopher
boys in Abbeville, John Davis, and James Cobb also
present. To me, this almost shows that David
Christopher is the Christopher that married a daughter
of John Davis, which would make David the father of
John Davis Christopher who is mentioned in the will of
John Davis, Abbeville 1831. This is not etched in
stone, but its the best I can figure.

Here is the only thing of interest I found about the lawyer James
Christopher in Abbeville in the 1780's.
Since I can not or should not attach photo's of what I have found I will
try to retype what I have:
"Davis, William, Box 28, Pack 648
Est. Admr. Sept 13 1782 by Jas. Christopher, Michael Harvey, Allen Henton,
bound to Jno. Ewing Calhoun Ord. 96 Dist.
sum 14,000 lbs Cit. ment.
*Jas. Christopher was of Cherokee Ponds. * Inv. made Mar 20, 1783 by Wm.
Covington, Allen Hinton, Jno. Currie."
Cherokee Ponds, is that a place in SC?? I checked it out a few times, but
did not decide, if what I found now, was relevant then.
I do not understand all the abbreviations in the statement above. Just
saying, they should have written things out in full instead of all the
abbreviating in my opinion. Wish I could go back and give them all a Gibbs
"head slap". I mean, what did they save by printing "jno." instead of
"john" or Jas. instead of "James" Our ancestors, especially record
keepers, were "Ding Dongs"!!! There was probably a contest going on
between record keepers as to who could be the most "radical" *Abbreviators*

So would I. I need to solve this David Christopher problem but I do not
know why a father would have to post bond to take custody of his own sons.
Everyone keep digging into this nothing is to radical to be discounted and
not true. I wonder if the bond posting for the boys has more information
about them than we have on the internet? Like who their parents are, were
they brothers, etc.

I tend to agree with this, but this sentence is not complete. "This would
also most likely make the David Christopher in 1818 that took guardianship
of the two Christopher boys in Abbeville, John Davis, and James Cobb also
present." What???? Unless the sentence is to have a "," shows that
David Christopher is the Christopher that married a daughter of John
Davis. What irritates me about that is that I can not find any information
on who his daughters married, period. I guess we are lucky we have John
Davis Will, but it leaves a lot unknown. Sometimes I just want to go back
in time and "whip, my ancestors for not leaving better records!!!
This goes along with the theory of Gerald Rimmer (I lost internet in the
stupid storm, thank you AT&T Tablet for your connection) lived next door to
David Christopher vs Daniel Christopher.
I built a tree for John Davis Christopher and his descendants this morning
and have a possible living descendant ,Peter T., amazingly a Peter
Christopher just posted his name on Wiki this morning. I have a message on
his profile page asking him who he descends from. Hope he answers up
quickly.
Lets all keep poking around and John Davis and his children and find out
his date of birth and who he was married to besides Elizabeth whoever. We
need good dates and places of birth on his three mentioned children as
well.

mistype, I meant to say Nancy, not Mary in the last message about Ralph Griffin Christopher and connections.
PS; Northampton NC is right at Halifax, NC, I am sure we had Christopher's in out line in Halifax at one time or another. Seems like it was mid to late 1700's, Jimmy, jump in here and help me, your member is better than mine, and my notes are scattered..

I wonder if we would find a John Griffin in Abbeville with wife named Mary? If so, then maybe this could link to Ralph Griffin Christopher, it's possible, but would not explain Ralph's middle name, must be other marriages between the 2 lines, will keep looking. 1801, 2 years before Ralph came to Abbeville with sister and brother -in-law..
