Here is the name of my best fam tree-
christopher-Joslin-Mullen-Marcelis
If you do a search for Alfred Mullen Baltimore you should be able to bring it up. I hope it helps.....Bet we are related by some grandparent Christopher being brothers.
I am stuck withj my Wm. Christopher born 1822 married to Elizabeth R marcella/Marcellas (Her mother was born in PA in 1798)
Do you have anymore info on the Christopher generations on your side? Did you set up a family tree?
Have you gone to genforum and leave messages. If not, google genforum and use the surname area.
Thanks for your help!
Kris

Apparently, our Laura's are different people...But that is ok...as Laura isn't an uncommon name. I will write out what I have and email it to you. It culd be that our info blends. There were few Marcelis in Maryland. After the 1850 census they moved to Virginia. I believe they originated in Canada also as French Hueganots.
There are many people and spouses that I don't know.
Have you posted on the genforum boards? If not, you should consider doing that...I have seen where families have found missing pieces to their family puzzles.

Thnak you for this information. My father said some in our family came in from Canada. My oldest brother said the Christophers originally came from Canada also...Said acadia/Nova Scotia.
I will start working on the hints that you gave me and let's see what we can do.

I'm not entirely sure of the connection if there is one.
Here is what I know about my Laura:
Laura Mae CHRISTOPHER was born 8 MAR 1862 in Maryland to Joseph CHRISTOPHER and Josephine (Josepheen) GAMBRILL. Laura was one of at least nine children... most of whom my mother (Laura's great-granddaughter)has always been able to list by name: Thomas, Priscilla, Ida, Nancy, Sadie, Charles, Rebecca, and Mary. My mom remembers her aunts very well, but not her uncles. I'm not certain where any of these people other than Laura is buried; she is buried at St. Stephen Bradshaw Church with her husband and son.
My Laura CHRISTOPHER married Henry WHALEN in about 1886. They had three children: William, Marian, and Raymond. She miscarried at least three other children. Marian is my great grandmother; her married name was Marian Missouri CALLAHAN. (We have no idea what the story behind the middle name is!)
The Laura in my tree never married anyone else. BUT...
It is Marian who told my mother about being related to the MARCELS. I always assumed it was through the WHALEN side, but it may be through the CHRISTOPHERS after all. I can wait to find out for sure. In the meantime, here is the story as I understood it until today:
Henry WHALEN's mother was Caroline. I'm not entirely sure of her maiden name as she married and was widowed several times over. Caroline came from Alsace Lorraine, and was a dancer with a traveling show before settling. (My aunt has her original travel trunk.) She also was said to have been "born with a cawl"... which some in my family have said means she was psychic. There is a tale that she foresaw the deaths of her husbands; her daughters, including Laura, spoke of it. One husband was killed in an avalanche, perhaps out west. I always assumed this was the husband with the name MARCEL because it is the only name that has been passed down but is not part of the family gravesite at St. Stephen Bradshaw. Her name upon her death was Caroline CONNELL (which in in the census as O'CONNELL.) Before marrying CONNELL, she was Caroline WHALEN. At some point, she was an UNLAND.
Your Laura could be connected still, and this may explain the connection to the MARCELS, but I'm pretty sure it isn't the same woman. Still, I'm feeling really excited to learn a little more.
I've mentioned in previous posts that there is a small CHRISTOPHER family graveyard in Hamilton, Baltimore, MD. My husband and I spend time combing graveyards, including Greenmount-- which is huge. I think I'll go check out what you mentioned.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write.

OMW---That is way too cool. I just returned from Balto. I found Laura's grave in Green Mount Cemetery...There with the Marcelis family. Laura's grave is unmarked, as his her husband Wm. Christopher. The tombstones of the Marcelis family are very small...maybe 20 inches tall...and cannot be read, except Joseph and one with initials. They are in section M in the second section of the 4 part section. I will look at the info and keep trying to find oyt more. The Marcelis family have no standard of spelling. The first I see is on the family tree as Elizabeth T Marcella from PA born in 1798. Then the spelling changes (even in the cemetery records) the names of the family change.
Somehow there is a connection to the Easterb Shore with people named Hadaway, Fawcett, and Cheezum. I don't know how yet. When I was small, my dad took us to Kent/Talbot Rock Hall...Quaker Neck area near Chestertown...Where he stayed with his Uncle Tubby..(Clarence Fawcett) Would you know the connections? I found the Joslins came from London in 1855...Some of the family came from Acadia (Canada) probably Nova Scotia. I just don;t know who... I was told they changed their name...Could that be the Marcella/Marcelis family...French Hugunats? Then there are the Mullens and Raynier-
Glad to meet you.
Does any of this sound familiar?

We may be connected, as my mother often stated that Laura Christopher was related to the "Marcels". She wasn't sure of the spelling.

Hi Carolyn,
My name is Roger Christopher. My lineage of Christopher’s came from Germany by way of Holland. They settled in North Carolina and South Carolina. I was born in South Carolina. We relocated to West Texas when I was 10 years old (now 67). I have visited all of my grand parent’s grave sites in N and S Carolina. My ggg-grandfather was Peter Christopher buried in Canton, NC, gg-grandfather was Daniel C. buried in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery near Conover, NC, my g-grandfather was Emmanuel C. buried in Fort Lawn, SC near my grandfather David Henry C. My father was Calvin B. Christopher buried in Granbury, Texas. We have had many reunions at Myrtle Beach, SC and 2 of my cousins are planning another one soon I hope. It has been several years since we last had a family reunion.
C. Roger C.
