Maybe we are starting to see a connection with the
Christopher's from Nicholas and ties to Abbeville, now
I am not sure that this is the John Davis from the
1818-1830 records, but if it is, he married Ursula
Hall, who's mother was a Grigg(s), David, son of
Nicholas was married to Elizabeth Grigg. I don't know,
will have to look at this harder, but maybe it holds a
key to Christopher's into Abbeville, Davis
connections, etc. Yall loook into it as well and see
if anyone of you can come up with any more data.
Thanks,
David
PS; And it goes to Halifax as well with John Hall,
maybe something there?

Yea, its a hard bit of info to try dig through, I
don't have much to offer, but I am throwing out what I
can to see if anyone can put any of it together. We
have always known that Robert was one of the early
Christopher's in the Spartanburg area, now this other
info puts a George in that same area, and most of this
is pre 1800, so I believe that George, Robert,
Ephraim, Peter, all come from the same group, and they
seem to bounce back and forth between SC and NC, and
maybe a few go into northern Georgia.
Now the other group in the early 1800's in Abbeville,
Daniel, David, William, seem to have ties to the Davis
and Griffin families, as well as some dealings with
the Wardlaw family, if my memory servers me right. I
think that that bunch come out of the Nicholas
Christopher line, but I have never been able to make
any real connection. We can connect some of them after
Abbeville, but we haven't been able to link them back
to Nicholas.

Hi All,
My Christopher's were in North Carolina.
Except for the name William these South Carolina Christopher's all seem to have different names.
My group traveled with and married into the Williams family.
Thomas Williams and Thomas Christopher were in the revolutionary war together and the only lands they owned (as far as I know) were in North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and finally Missouri.
N C Family first names were:
Thomas
William David
James Joseph
Caleb
Mary
These South Carolina Christopher's don't seem a fit for my group but I welcome the information.
Good Hunting!

Now back to Abbeville, I am interested in finding out
about William, Daniel, and David, and their connection
with one John Davis. In 1818, David with John Davis
present, takes charge of two minor boys and pays $2000
bond. The boys are named as William Buckner and
Griffin Christopher, both under the age of 14.
Now in the 1820 census David is on the same page with
a John Davis, John Davis appears as over 45 years of
age with a female also over 45. David Christopher is
on the same page with 3 male kids under 10, 1 under
16, himself under 26, 1 female under 16, and his wife
I assume, also under 26. William Christopher is also
on the 1820 census, different page, 1 male, 2 females
all under 10, while both he and his wife are under 26.
Now in 1830 Daniel Christopher shows up right over a
John Davis, John is under 75, as is his wife, but
there are 2 other people in their home, 1 male, 1
female, both under 30. Now Daniel, who is listed just
above this John Davis has a house full, Daniel showing
up in the 40-50 bracket, with the oldest female(wife?)
being in the 30-40 bracket. 1 boy under 5, 2 under 10,
1 under 15, 1 under 20, and 1 under 30. 1 female under
5, and another under 15.
I haven't done the math, but I assume that this John
Davis who is with David Christopher in 1820, is the
same John Davis listed on the sheet right after Daniel
in the 1830 census. Least we forget that Abbeville was
both the start of secession and also the last place
the confederate government met when all was lost, in
fact Jefferson Davis(Mississippi raised) fled Richmond
and spent a day or three in Abbeville when all was
lost for the confederates. So in all rights, Abbeville
was both the birth place and death bed of the civil
war. I wonder if Jefferson had any family connections
in Abbeville, who knows, maybe this John Davis who
seems connected to the Christopher's was related to
Jefferson? Most likely not, but what the heck,
interesting to ponder, but who were these
Christopher's in Abbeville, were they all family, it
would seem so, and it also seems that the John Davis
had more than a casual relationship with some of them.
Can some of you that are good at this stuff go over
this and see if anything can come out of it?
Thanks,
David Christopher

Here I have a copy of a record for George Christopher
back in 1775::
George Christopher, 11 Oct. 1775: 1000 Acres in Craven
County(District) on N fork of Fergusons Creek, waters
of the Tygar River. Bounded N on William Pruitts.
Survey certified 11 Apr. 1775; granted 9 June 1775.
Quit rent in 2 years. James Wofford, DS {2-407:4}
Now, in the little research I was able to do, this is
on the Little Ferguson Creek, just north of the town
of Woodruff, S.C., which is a bit south of
Spartanburg. Based on that, it seems to suggest that
maybe the George mentioned here is part of the
Northumberland Christopher's that came down from Va.?
I would suggest that any of the Northumberland bunch
look at the names here and see if they go back to Va.,
the William Pruitts, and James Wofford, are there any
Virginia ties that may help us link this George to
Northumberland?
Thanks,
David
