Thanks for the info. My ancestor is actually Barent, not Hance but it is still very interesting. I'd love a copy of the will if it's no trouble.
Have you seen the Pavone - Tillquist tree on RootsWeb.com? It gives all the generations from the first immigrant (Johannes Christopher b. 1648). Might be interesting to you.
Still found nothing more about George Washington Christopher, the Pilot.

Jack: I found an unusual letter of administration, for Richmond County NY, as follows:
" William Burnet, Esq; Captain-General and governor. Whereas Christofell Christophers, of Staten Island, died intestate, Letters of Administration are granted to his wife Christentre, December 2, 1727.
Liber 10:124....WNYHS II:328.
It's odd to me because the original surname (Christofell) is used as a Christian name, and a "S" is added to the surname.
I have researched Joshua Mersereau, b 1728 who was Deputy Commissary General of Prisoners, responsible for Lt General Burgoyne's British army, 1777-1783. George Washington assigned intelligence duties (spy activity)to Elias Boudinot, when he ( Elias) became Commissary General of Prisoners April 1, 1777. This responsibilty, assigned in George Washington's letter to Boudinot, of April 1, stated
"procuring of intelligence". Boudinot, on appointing Joshua Mersereau, passed on the responsibility.
Joshua Mersereau b 1728 purchased 25 1/2 acres of land May 1 1758, from WIDOW Jane (Arrowsmith) Christopher, to build his first home.So Jane and Joshua were neighbours, before the Revolution, and after Hans Christopher's death.Jane's son,Joseph Christopher was baptised at the Reformed Church of Port Richmond 8/8/1736. The Mersereau Family were very active in this church, and are buried there. When Joseph Christopher bought the "Christopher House circa 1720" (now so named), in Graniteville, it was about 1/2 mile, and on the same road, as Col Jacob Mercereau home, who lived near the large swamp.Jacob was with the NJ Militia and known as the Patrick Henry of Staten Island, and remained in NJ during the war.The swamp allowed some protection to those attending Intelligence meetings at Christopher House, should the British appear at the front door.
Joshua Mersereau b 1728 m 8/10/1784 Bergin NJ, Hester (Garrison) Christopher b abt 1750, daughter of John and Hanna Garrison. Hester m #1 Capt Richard Christopher bapt 9/30/1739 on 7/28/1767. Richard was the 4th son of Hans Christopher b 1712 and Jane Aarrowsmith. Richard and Hester had three sons:John Garrison b 9/18/1770,James Grover b 8/30/1772 and Joseph b 5/9/1775. Joshua Mersereau and Hester had no children. She is died 6/10/1808 and is buried beside Joshua at Riverside Cemetery, Union, New York ( upstate).
If you can add/subtract anything or have anything more on the intelligence activity, I would appreciate it.

I am researching the Mersereau's who m into Garrison and Christopher families,( as a hobby, now that I am retired. My link is through my daughter-in-law who is a Mersereau). Joshua Mersereau b 1728 was Deputy Commissary General 1777-1783 and the library of congress has letters to/from Joshua and General George Washington. Joseph Christopher b 8/8/1736 S.I. operated an intelligence service concerning, British troop movements and meetings were held with Mersereau family at Joseph's home. Joshua Mersereau b 1728 and his brother John Mercereau b 1732 received funds directly from George Washington for this important intelligence activity. I have it that Joseph Christopher b 8/8/1736 was the son of Joseph b abt 1712.Can you help me with Joseph Christopher's b abt 1712 genealogy line to Johannes b 1648 d 1703?
I can provide you with Hance Christopher's Will dated 5/5/1719 if you are interested.

Hope this helps.

We are indeed related to Hans Christopher. Our first George washington Christopher was born about 1824, (he is my gt.gt. grandfather) his father was John Christopher, born about 1796.His grandfather was Joseph Christopher (Rev. War), born about 1768. His gt. grandfather was Joseph Christopher baptised 8/8/ 1736. I notice that Hannah Christopher ( born 1781 daughter of Richard Christopher and Hester Garrison) married Lawrence Mersereau - born 1773. This is all very intriguing!!! Most of my info from the USA has come via the internet, as I live in the UK, so I have no documentary proof before the first George Washington Christopher, but do have his death notice, (from Sailors Snug Harbor, NY) itemising his brothers and sisters, so I know he is the son of John Christopher.

William and family in Benton, later Calhoun Co. AL 1850/60. Still seeking proof of Williams' parents- Nancy in 1830 census of Spartanburg probably his mother. Thanks for any info on them, Jon Newman

Kathy: Are you related to Hans Christopher b abt 1712 Staten Island and Jane b abt 1715( Arrowsmith)?
Hans b 1712>Joseph bapt 8/8/1736>Joseph b abt 1762 > Capt Richard b? of West New Brighton.
Joseph bapt 8/8/1736 lived in Graniteville, Richmond County S.I. and was a member of the 1775-? Committee of Safety for Richmond County NY. Secret meeting were held in his home, concerning British troop movements during the Revolution. The Mersereau Family were master spies for George Washington, and lived not far from the Christopher home in Graniteville( which has since been moved to Richmondtown as a important historic home).I am not related to the Christopher's but have researched the Mersereau family. My interest would be.. who was the father of the first George Washington Christopher and how this interesting christian name might connect to Joseph bapt 8/8/1736.
The Mersereau's and Christopher's attended the Reformed Church of Port Richmond where Joseph bapt 8/8/1736 was baptised.
