With respect to the James Christopher (b. abt. 1833) found in the 1850 census in Gibson County TN, your post places him in Williamson County TN in the 1860 census. There is an online transcription of this census which does not show him. Did you mean Wilson County TN, where you place him in 1870? If you meant Williamson, could you give a page number?
I am not a Christopher, but am interested in the Civil War in Southwest Missouri and in the Sexton/Christopher connection in Barry County MO. The James Christopher from Gibson County had younger brothers Jesse (b. abt. 1843) and William (b. abt. 1844) who fought first for the Confederates, then for the Union.
On July 24, 1864, Jesse Christopher married a Sary Christopher in Lawrence County MO. In the 1870 Barry County MO census they are listed as follows: Capps Creek Township, Household 80: Jesse Christopher 28 TN; Sarah 29 MO; Wayne 12 MO; Clem 10 MO; Margaret 8 MO; George 4 MO; Jesse 3 MO; James 1/12 MO.
Clearly there are two sets of children here, one predating the marriage and the other afterwards. I can't help wandering if Sary Christopher was the widow of the James Christopher from Gibson County, Jesse's brother?
I have a website that has some information on the Civil War Christophers and the Sextons in Barry County (use the search): http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~cappscreek/
