Linda --
I know you are very active in the US Gen Web community, so you may already have this information. William Christopher married two of the daughters of Aquilla Hardy & Mary "Polley" Steward. Aquilla is alleged to be the first white settler of Coweta Co, renting lands from the Indians in the area that is now the Sixth District of Coweta Co (right near the Fayette Co line).
My husband is a descendant of two of Aquilla & Polley's sons, William Jesse Hardy and Rufus Wesley Hardy. William's son, Joseph Hardy, married Rufus's daughter, Mary Frances Hardy (they were therefore 1st cousins as well as husband and wife).
Aquilla & Polley's daughter, Mary Frances Hardy (not to be confused with the Mary in the previous paragraph) married Samuel E. Christopher on 28 Dec 1848. I don't know what Samuel's relation is (if any) to William, but instinct tells me there is one. Based on William's age, he could be a son from a marriage prior to the Hardy sisters. He later moved to Orange Co., Florida per research by Mrs. Frances (Mattox) Christopher.
Sincerely,
Valerie Freeman

Thanks for your interest. All that I know about my William is that according to a family HARDY Bible states that he was born in Lunenburg county, Va 1813. I do not know who his parents and siblings were if any. I do know that he was in Coweta County as early as 1833 which would put him at age 20.
He married Eliza Hardy, daughter of Aquilla Hardy, and when she died he married her sister, Susan, and had fourteen children. He lived here in Coweta County, moving to Ala before the war. He lived there in Gadsden, Etowah County, until he died in 1892. I have all the children but nothing before coming to Coweta County.
I have considered the two orphans in Abbeville county SC in 1818, A David Christopher made guardian. The boys were Buckner Griffin and William Christopher. I have written over there but nothing in the box but what I already had. What is your thought on this?? If you have any thoughts on my line would certainly
appreciate all the help. I have been working on this for many, many years. Frances

Your descendency from William Christopher (on the Joseph and Martha
Nixon site) was placed on a small Christopher maillist. I have family
members in that location and thought I would put them forward for
consideration:
Nicholas Christopher, originally in Richmond Co - Spotsylvania
Co-Orange Co (in the Germanna community), moved south and died in
Lunenberg County, VA, in 1754.
His son, William Christopher, also moved south and died in bordering
Charlotte County, VA, in 1772.
It would sound like your William, b. 1813, was a descendant of this
line.
I don't know much more about them between 1770s and 1813 - our line
continues with William's daughter (we think) Sarah Christopher who
married James Butler of Mecklenburg County, VA. They left VA shortly
after the Revolution and took out land grants in Wilkes (later Elbert)
County, GA.
I hope this at least gives you some names to check out,
Jane

I am researching my Bridges family from Coweta County, Ga. My GG Aunt, Guada L. Bridges or Guadelona married Abihue Christopher in Coweta County, Ga. in 1868. At some point they removed to Etowah County, AL. He died there in 1935. I have letters from them and their children to my GG Grandmother from Attala and Gadsden. The Christophers had ten children as follows - Will T., June I., Norton, Louis, Dora, Mamie?, Lucy, Louise, and 2 unknown. Dora married a J. W. Bartlett and they lived in Boulder, Colorado in 1935. Mamie? married a G. C. Harp and lived in Gadsden. Lucy married Earnest Smith and lived in Gadsden. Louise married William Chalmers and lived in Attalla in 1935. Three of the sons, Will T., June I, and Norton lived in Etowah County in 1935. In 1935, Louis Christopher lived in Columbus, Ga. and he died 28 Apr 1944. I would like to make contact with any descendants of this family or anyone researching the related surnames.

This was taken from the Augusta Chronicle.com web sit. This is a new paper
from Augusta Georgia. I hate to see graves being moved, especially for a road
renovation. I hoping that there may be descendants of these people that can
have some say in the matter.
Listed below is the web sit address for the story, there is a small map at
the site giving a some what location of the graves.

Transportation officials are preparing to move 15 graves from an old cemetery
discovered three years ago during work on a Bobby Jones Expressway bridge
project. The graveyard near Sand Bar Ferry Road and the levee is believed to
date back as far as the 1830s, said Eric Duff, a Georgia Department of
Transportation archaeologist."They think they could possibly be slave
burials," he said.<A HREF="http://augustachronicle.com/images/headlines/041202/graves.jpg"> </A>
Mr. Duff said the graveyard was found when work began on an extension of
Bobby Jones from Sand Bar Ferry to the Savannah River in 1999. The extension
is part of a Bobby Jones Expressway bridge plan, which is designed to cross
the Savannah River. The process of researching the site and then determining
whether there were any living descendants of those buried there began only
recently because funding for the project on the South Carolina side was
approved much later.Mr. Duff said the graveyard isn't listed on any deeds or
other county records. The site's previous landowners have been tracked to
other cemeteries, he said."It's a very small cemetery," he said, adding that
the site is 130 feet long by 30 feet wide.DOT officials say there were no
markers to identify the graves - only the outline stains of wood from coffins
underneath the top layer of soil. During the research process, archaeologists
were unable to find any living relatives."We do not expect anybody to come
forward and say, 'Oh, my great-great-great-granddaddy is buried there,"' said
Dr. Rowe Bowen, also a DOT archaeologist assigned to the project. "But we've
still got to make every effort to do that."Next week, Dr. Bowen said, the DOT
will place an ad in the newspaper stating that it has applied to Richmond
County Superior Court for a permit to move the graves. If the permit is
approved, all 15 graves will be moved to Southview Cemetery on D'Antignac
Street, Mr. Duff said.
