"CHRISTOPHER - Thomas Weldon Christopher, 83, retired legal educator. Dean Christopher, former Alabama Law School Dean, was a pioneer legal scholar, teacher,and law school administrator. He served as the dean of the law schools at the University of Alabama and at the University of New Mexico, authored or coauthored over a dozen books and wrote over 60 articles in his legal career. His honors included an honorary degree from the University of Alabama and a Founder's Day Award from New York University. Dean Christopher was born in 1917 in Duncan, South Carolina and grew up in Union County. He attended Washington and Lee University on scholarship, graduating in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and graduated from the Alabama Law School in 1948. He later obtained LL.M and J.S.D. (1957) degrees at New York University Law School. After a period in the private practice of law in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Dean Christopher began his teaching career as a law!
professor, and later associate dean (1954-1961) at Emory University Law School. Dean Christopher was a pioneer in the area of consumer protection law. He wrote or coauthored several books and articles on food and drug law, including, "Cases and Materials on Food and Drug Law" the first law school textbook devoted to that subject, "Constitutional Questions in Food and Drug Law" and other books and articles on consumer protection law." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ " In addition to his numerous legal publications Dean Christopher published two volumes of poetry, "Poems from a Carolina Farm", and "Santuc". Following his retirement from teaching, he authored an article on Revolutionary War history in the South Carolina Review. Dean Christopher is survived by his wife, Goldie; brothers Albert and Arthur; grandchildren Charles Lawrence Christopher and Catherine Elaine Christopher; children and step-children, Thomas H. Christopher, John Gambrell, Grace Young, George Gambrell, !
