I am searching for information on my great grandparents. Margaret Elizabeth Christopher and Powhatan Butler. I don't know what state they lived in, but my dad was born in Arkansas. Help would appreciated. Bette
You seem to have done a lot of Christopher research. Have you ever seen where Margaret Elizabeth Christopher married Powhatan Butler? These are my great grandparents. I don't have much information. Bette

The only reason I mention this is that this virus has been sent to me a
number of times in emails, though I have been lucky so far. Yall need to
keep your eyes open on this one, as it seems to be wide spread.

My name is Calvin Roger Christopher.
I have traced my family records to Newton & Lincoln Co. N.C. My father was
Calvin B. Christopher. My grandfather was David Henry Christopher buried in
Fort Lawn, S.C. (Chester Co.). My great grandfather was Emmanuel
Christopher is also buried in Fort Lawn, S.C.. He came down the Catawba
River from Newton Co., N.C. to Fort Lawn, S.C. on a raft back around the
Civil War time. Emmanuel's father - Daniel Christopher is buried in the
Bethel Lutheran cemetery near Clearmont, N.C.. I am currently trying to
verify that Daniel Christopher's father was Peter Christopher (1798 - ?)
whose first wife was Fanny (Sigman) Christopher (1800 - ?). Daniel and
Peter are both in the cencus records of 1840 and both were wheelwrights
near Hickory, N.C.. I have found Peter and Fannys' names are in the marriage
index in the Lincolnton, N.C.

Hi David,
Wow! Thank you so much for passing along this information. I have also heard
from the author of the below information, and am hoping that together we can
make some kind of connection. From a logical standpoint and even more
importantly for me, as a matter of "gut feeling" I am inclined to believe
that the Christopher's in Haywood Co NC in the 1800's are somehow related.
Given the fact that the population of Haywood Co NC was only 40,000 people
in the year 2000, I think this adds credence to my theory that Christopher's
of the same name in a very small geographical area 150 years ago, were
probably somehow related.
I am only sure of my g grandfather William Noah Christopher's experience
(1865-1951), but from that I see a pattern of movement for his family that
has him in Haywood Co. NC, Greenville,Lexington Co or Richland Co, and
Spartanburg Co. SC, as well as the family spent every winter in Southern
Florida. From researching other family surnames I recognize a pattern of
families traveling to visit other family members, so at least for the most
part, I'm expecting that most of the places this family lived were also
populated with either Christopher relations or the relations of William
Noah's wife, Emma Shealy. One bit from the family of Calvin Filmore's
descendants is that Calvin and his family also spent some time is SC, but I
am not sure as to where they resided.
Sorry for the ramble, again I thank you for your dedication to collecting
and disseminating Christopher family information, and I'm hoping that in
times to come we can link the various Christopher branches together if we
can find the necessary evidence to do so.

Hi David,
I wrote to you many months ago when I first began my search for my
Christopher roots. I've since changed e mail accounts and have had several
computer crashes, which have left me without a copy of our original
correspondence. I joined the Christopher mailing list about a month ago, and
am not sure if this is too long, to submit to the list (I'm too wordy).
Please edit it as you see fit and post it if you will?
thanks for all of the wonderful information that you dig up for all of us
Christopher seekers out here, your time and energy is appreciated!

-5-105 From the 1870 Haywood Co NC Census records the following children
were living in their household:
-Clarissa b. abt 1848
-Minerva b. abt. 1851
-MiLa M. b. abt. 1853
-Eleanor b. abt. 1855
-Calvin Philmore (Filmore) b. 18, Jan 1859 d. 12, May 1840, buried: Bethel
United Methodist Cemetery Church. married 1st: Martha Poston 2nd: Lou Pless
-Sarah c. b. abt. 1860 married Pinkney Long resided for some time in Gaston
Co NC
-Sylvester b. abt 1862
-William Noah b. 27, Feb 1865 d. 9,Nov. 1951 buried Traveler's
Rest,Greenville Co. SC married 1st:unknown 2nd:Emma Shealy from SC
-Baswell M. listed as infant b. dec. 1869
other Christopher's listed in the same area on the 1870 Haywood Co. NC
census:
-5-116 Malinda Christopher (age: 37) married to Phillip Rhodarmer (age: 49)
-5- 119 William B. Christopher (age:25) living with his mother Sarah(age:57)
says she never married.
-5-123 Malinda Christopher (age:42) married to Thomas Hall (age:47)
-5-124 Davault Christopher (age: 56)...notation says that he was married:
1st: Elizabeth Ann Holland and 2nd: Malinda Holland then it appears he was
currently married to: Elizabeth Hall (age:32), however the page I am reading
from is cut off as to the relationship column.
additional notes and questions:
1) There is a Peter Christopher listed in the 1840 Haywood Co NC census, and
the total number in his household is 7, given the 1870 census information on
the children in the household it is possible that he had at least 5 more
children then the ones that resided in his household in the 1870 census.
2) Peter had died by the 1880 census, and it shows his wife Anne Christopher
as the head of household living with son William N. Christopher....what
happened to the rest of this large family?
3) there are three different stories as to the origin of Peter Christopher.
The first, from the census records of 1870 and 1880 list that he, his wife
Anne Pope and all children listed in the 1870 census were born in NC. The
second, from descendants of Calvin Filmore Christopher say that Calvin was
born in Pittsburgh, PA, and Calvin's death cert says that both Peter and
Anne were born in PA. Calvin was a noted inventor with over 100 patents
registered to his name, and spent most of his life near Canton, Haywood CO,
NC. The third, from descendants of William Noah Christopher say that Peter
immigrated from a country near Germany with several brothers, that the
brothers argued and went their separate ways after arriving somewhere on the
East coast of America. This family lore is further enhanced by the telling
of the story that Peter never learned to read in English, and Anne would
read to him the news.
4) What is the relationship (if any) between the Peter Christopher family
and other Christopher families in Haywood Co NC?
5) There is an area in Haywood Co. NC near Bethel/Canton that family lore
has was named for Peter, it is called Peter Cove. Can anyone confirm this?
6) There is a "missing" Christopher in this line that so far has not showed
up on census, cemetery or in other official records. Two branches of the
family have him listed as Wesley, or Manual Wesley. He is listed as Calvin
Christopher's brother in his obituary (1940) however, we can not find any
records for him. He was reported to have had some physical deformity (a pea
sized hole in the side of his nose) and he may have never married.
7)Could Peter Christopher have a different 'given' first name?
any and all assistance in trying to put together the puzzle of this
Christopher family would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

I descend from Nicholas Christopher who arrived in Va. about 1695.
Nicholas lived in Richmond, Spotsylvania, Orange, & Lunenburg Counties;
he died in Lunenburg Co. in 1753 or 1754. His wife was Ann or Anna.
I descend by the following male line:
David (about 1720 -1783 or 1784) married and Elizabeth (some evidence that
she was a Grigg)
William (about 1760 - 1820) (married Lucy Jones daughter of Richard Jones
of Halifax Co. Va.)
Richard (about 1792 -1863) married Martha Akins (who are her parents?)
William (about 1828 - 1903 or 1904) married a Eliza Barker (who are her
parents?)
John Franklin (1853 -1913) married Sarah (Sally) Frances Giles
Emmett (1902 - 1996) married Myrt Evans
Frank (1921 -1991) (married Inez Walker)
Most of the above dates are estimates.
I am searching for others who may descend from this line.
Also I am searching for the maiden names of the wives and
the parents of the wives of the older of the above males.
I am willing to share what little I know about the above.

I made 15 Family Tree Books and took them to the reunion and sold them for
what it cost me basically to try and recoup my expense. I have had several
other family members inquire about the books, and I am thinking about
printing up some more for folks that want them. My question here is, to you
people that picked up a copy of the book at the reunion, was it worth the
$20 it cost? I know that there were a few typo's in the book, like double
paragraphs in places, but I am hoping that since I am now using a newer
version of the family tree program, maybe those mistakes with not appear in
the new books. But even with the few flaws, are yall happy with the book
that you got? Let me hear from a few of you so I will better understand if
there's something I can do to improve it before the next printing.
Thanks,
David
PS; I would also ask any of yall that are in the book to send me some
pictures of you and your family, so they can be included in the book.
As is customary, I have managed to once again to allow my C: drive to get all but wiped out. And as it always seems to happen, my email seems to be what I end up really at a loss for. I tried to recover my email, to no avail. Most messages are not a problem, as they are archived. My greatest loss seems to be in the personal emails, emails that have family information in them that I am trying to work on, or emails with contact information in them, phone numbers, addresses, etc. If any of you have emailed me such information, you might want to resend, as all of those emails were lost.
Thanks,
David
PS; I did not lose any of the Family Tree.
