In July 1996, something special happened. Two "retirement" homes opened in
the Tiftonia area of Chattanooga, a community located on the
Tennessee/Georgia border.
There's not much that's different about opening homes for folks who have
earned the right to retire. People do it all the time. What is special is
that the 16 folks who moved into these homes have mental retardation.
Most of the folks who live in the homes are semi-retired. They work on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Others opt for full time retirement.
Perry says the residents come from many backgrounds. Eighty-four year old
Earl Christopher, known as "Pawpa," had no recorded family history. "A
sister, Mossy McCloud living in California, decided to visit him at Greene
Valley. She was told he had moved.
"Staff at Orange Grove invited her to visit. They'd had no contact since the
mid-80s, but her time with Pawpa was a success. They communicate frequently
now," continued Perry.

I descend from Nicholas Christopher who arrived in Va. about 1695.
Nicholas lived in Richmond, Spotsylvania, Orange, & Lunenburg Counties;
he died in Lunenburg Co. in 1753 or 1754. His wife was Ann or Anna.
I descend by the following male line:
David (about 1720 -1783 or 1784) married and Elizabeth (some evidence that
she was a Grigg)
William (about 1760 - 1820) (married Lucy Jones daughter of Richard Jones
of Halifax Co. Va.)
Richard (about 1792 -1863) married Martha Akins (who are her parents?)
William (about 1828 - 1903 or 1904) married a Eliza Barker (who are her
parents?)
John Franklin (1853 -1913) married Sarah (Sally) Frances Giles
Emmett (1902 - 1996) married Myrt Evans
Frank (1921 -1991) (married Inez Walker)
Most of the above dates are estimates.
I am searching for others who may descend from this line.
Also I am searching for the maiden names of the wives and
the parents of the wives of the older of the above males.
I am willing to share what little I know about the above.

Cousins, Christopher's, researchers, and the like, our reunion thats coming
up over in Watkinsville, (Athens area), Georgia, is less than 30 days away.
What am I supposed to say, I wish I had more solid information to give you
on the reunion, we had bigger plans than seemed to come together, but that
doesn't mean there won't be a good turnout, I expect over 100 people to
show, maybe as many as 200. Since this reunion is a first, and because the
main load of getting it together was shifted onto our cousin Linda, who was
to be a helper, and not the planner, as she doesn't live in the direct area
where this is taking place, its been harder to give minute by minute
developments. As I understand, we are getting the Community Center in
Farmers Branch, which is right out of Watkinsville almost all day on
Saturday, and several of our cousins in that area are working to put
together activities for us. Many of the people that will come to the reunion
are from areas close by and will be driving in from their homes each day and
do not require hotel/motel. But if you are planning on staying overnight,
you need to get your room reserved where ever you plan on staying, as the
rooms are dissappearing. Also, if you are not staying overnight anywhere,
but plan on being there, can u at least drop a line to Linda with your $10
payment, or however much you plan on sending, even if you are not coming to
the reunion, your donation to the reunion would be appreciated. I know much
of this sounds awkard, but this being the first, and the way its all
happening, and the lack of response from many people have put us here. We
have been talking, trying to plan this event for many months now, and here
we are at the brink of it happening, with little to report. We have around
28 days left before this event takes place, if you are planning on coming,
you should know by now, so please drop a line to Linda with your intentions.
Thanks,
David
PS; If I have errored in any of this message, please correct me, as I am
going from memory, and have not talked to anyone over the last few weeks
about the reunion's plans.

Hello Christopher Cousins,
Thanks to Bill Christopher and Jimmy Christopher we now have more
information
on motels in the Madison, GA area. As I suggested in an earlier email, you
should consider reserving your lodging choice now because it is a popular
place in the summer months for reunions, weddings, etc. and the motels fill
up quickly.
Each of these motels have 800 numbers you can secure locally.
1. Days Inn (Sold out for the weekend of the reunion)
2. Super 8 Motel (58 rooms $41 to $48 plus tax)
3. Holiday Inn Express (39 rooms $79 plus tax breakfast included)
4. Ramada Inn (50 rooms $48 plus tax)
5 Hampton Inn (50 rooms $65 plus tax breakfast included)
6. Comfort Inn (50 rooms approx. $52 plus tax)
There is a state park, Hard Labor Creek, located at Rutledge, Ga. which
is about 10 minutes from Madison and about 20 minutes from Farmington. Any
one who would like to camp could check there for reservations. Also, there
is a private camp ground at Bishop, Ga. Pine Lake RV Campground (GA Hwy.
186
which is 5540 High Shoals Road) Bishop, Ga. 30621 706 769 5486.
All of the motels are located at the intersection of I-20 and US 441.
This intersection is about 1 mile south of Madison. By following US441
North
you will be in Farmington in about 15 minutes. We will be using the
Community
Center in Farmington as our meeting place.
Jimmy also noted that High Shoals is located about 10 miles from Madison and
about the same distance from Farmington. Athens is about 40 minutes from
Madison and about 20 or 25 minutes from Farmington. Crawford is about the
same distance. Greensboro is about 20 minutes from Madison. Jefferson is
about 1 hour from Madison. Lumpkin County is about 2 to 3 hours from
Madison.
I would really like to hear from each of you to get some idea of how many to
plan for. We have volunteers who are willing to help in the refreshment
arena
also who will require an approximate number to plan for.
But folks, most of all, I need some money. We need it up front to pay for
the
Community Center and to buy refreshments. PLEASE, please send it in if you
haven't done so.
My mailing address is: 10205 Henry Mill Rd. Fairburn, GA 30213.
Thank you,
Linda Dallen
